false hope for a trade as McRae was removed from the 40-man roster to make room for Jace Fry's return from the 60-day IL.  Fry optioned to Charlotte.

Eduardo Escobar is not in the lineup today for the Diamondbacks.  A source says he's expected to be traded.  A few teams are interested in acquiring him. Destination unknown at this point.

... or it's "fake news" put out by the D-Backs to Heyman to try and get the White Sox to up their trade offer and bid against themselves.  Kind of like when a player agent claims "multiple teams" are interested in signing his client.

A trade report for a minor leaguer of the Atlanta Braves suggests that a new outfielder may be joining the team after the All-Star break.

Not sure why, but I’m seeing chatter (mostly from bloggers) about the Braves making a minor move for Eaton.
Would give the Sox some non-prospect most likely, but would maybe be something in return for Eaton.

I wouldn’t hold my breath, but worth watching over the next few days until his DFA period expires.

Grullon has been a highly rated defensive catcher and has hit 15-20 homers. Not hitting well for average this year, but typically has had a good bat. Had 2 hits in his debut last night with a homer and 4 RBIs

OK - 8 days until the deadline with hardly a peep....
Any predictions on the first (major league) trade the Sox pull off, if any?

Obvious options are:
1) Bullpen
2) 2B
3) RF
4) Catcher

With Robert and Jimenez returning, I doubt they get an OFer.

Lots of teams need bullpen help, so that's probably a deadline day deal.

So I'll guess 2B is the first move.

I'm wondering, bullpen-wise, if they'll decide that moving Cease into a bullpen role for October will be enough of a reinforcement.

Not sure if I'd consider Cease or Keuchel the 5th starter at this point, but my feeling is that power arms adjust better to the bullpen.

I doubt it happens. But no way they move Jimi to setup guy. Kimbrel would be one helluva 8th inning guy.

Plus glove, league-average bat. Gets the 2B slot in the lineup back up to "not a hole" status.

Giving up Pilkington to upgrade to "not a hole" kind of hurts, but that's the price of a contention window I suppose.

He had a slow start to his season but has come on strong.  This month he's .268 / .337 / .562 with 6 HR and 17 RBI.  An .899 OPS this month, just what the Sox offense needs right now and he's a switch hitter. He also was the AL Gold Glove winner at 2B last year.

Not a bad move especially if he only cost them Konnor Pilkington. Although I would have prefer trading someone already on the 40-man roster like Burdi.

Sure beats seeing Leury, Mendick or Yolmer in the lineup every day at 2B for the rest of this year.
