Basically a late inning defensive replacement / pinch running option. Aka left-handed Adam Engel.

In terms of his bat? Yeah, his bat is a pool noodle.
His defense (this year's 20 games or so notwithstanding) is superb, and his speed / base running / base stealing are also elite.

85% steal percentage for his career. Nice to have for extra innings when we get to start out with a man on 2B.

I can't wait for a walk-off 2-run home run to lead off the bottom of the 7th inning one of these games.

I am a box score reader, I still get caught once in a while wondering how there was an unearned run in an extra inning. No errors, no Passed Balls, no catcher interference... and then it sinks in. But I like the rule now, we have a bit of an advantage with Dyson.

Not sure I like the trade all that much.
I guess Lynn would be a much better known asset - more predictable - than Dunning, but I was really hoping that Dunning would get a fair shake at a full season. I liked what he did for us this year, and he seemed to be a good #3 at best, reliable #5 at worst.

I also hate to see the kids go before we find out what they can do. But I also like the fact they are trying to improve. This does not appear to be the Lance Lynn who stunk it up with the Twins. Guess we will find that out too.

As Shoeless said on another board, wish we would spend money rather than giving up on kids.

Dunning seems like a bit too much to give up for one year.

But maybe by going with the cheap salaries of Lynn and Eatme, they'll spend $$ elsewhere (bullpen, Bauer).

Lance Lynn is considered to be one of the best teammates for the clubhouse.  This guy is one of the worst:

good explanation of why Engel is no more than a platoon player:

Avery Weems was the prospect included with Dane Dunning in the Lance Lynn trade.  Weems was a 6th round pick in 2019 where he was was a "Senior budget pick" to save money to pay for earlier round picks.  He signed for $10K but did well in rookie ball.

Finally on the Sox, we drafted him out of HS in 2009 hoping to take him away from his UNC commitment.

He's a decent player and good outfielder. It'll be interesting who else the Sox will be trading for or signing. With Eaton going in the proverbial tank and Leury just a fill-in on occasions kind of guy, they need another outfielder. I say that Sheets hit a home-run in his first game in 3A. I still think that he has a good future.

Not sure if this thread or the Farm thread is the appropriate place for it....

Sox are the favorites for Oscar Colas, aka the "Cuban Ohtani."

Colas is rated as the #2 available international pool prospect.... behind Yoelqui Cespedes.

He is no where near an Ohtani. Hits well, but not like Ohtani. Has hardly pitched, sounds like those days are over. What a terrible nickname, puts a ton of pressure on the kid and he is not anything close to Ohtani.

It's June, time to warm up the hot stove...

Have to think Mariners are at least taking calls on Haniger...any thoughts on what might pry him loose? His .844 OPS against righties would be 2nd to Moncada among our regulars.

Probably cost the Sox Gavin Sheets as Haniger makes $3M and has an addition year of club control before free agency. That's if the free agency rules don't change after this season when the current CBA expires.
