Red Sox claim lefthander Josh Osich off waivers

Dave Bush will become pitching coach, and he’ll be assisted by Kevin Walker.

If we could get Price/Benintendi for a piece like Lopez, JR should pay up and get it done.

Beni is a lefty bat that plays + defense in the OF. Price would be a nice #2 behind gio. If we can add a Ryu and kendrick in FA that would be gravy.

Price is really really good. Beni was injured for a lot of the year he'd be our best defensive OF almost immediately. Move Eloy to DH. 3 problems solved with 1 move.

The literal answer is "Yes, he could".

Chicago sports radio personality Sam Panayotovich reported Wednesday that he was hearing the White Sox were "strongly pursuing" Castellanos, who the club became plenty familiar with during his time with the Tigers.

"Chicago sports radio personality"?  Never heard of this dude.

After signing catcher Yasmani Grandal on Wednesday, the White Sox are expected to pursue free agent pitcher Zack Wheeler, according to major league sources.

Grandal/Wheeler/Castellano's and a traded for BP arm would be as fantastic off-season.

I liked McCann - a lot.   He had a knack for big plays like Creede  talk me out of being upset.

I liked him too, but Grandal appears to be the better player. Out of all the qualifier catchers last year (by #innings) Grandal was #2 on pitch framing. McCann was dead last. That is something that truly helps out pitchers, especially young pitchers who do not always get breaks from the umps. Grandal has more power, hit 28 homers last year and in past 4 years is #2 homer run hitter among catchers behind that Sanchez guy on the Yankees. He also walked 109 times to 32 or so for McCann. Therefore, even tho McCann out hit him like .280 something to .240 something, Grandal has the better OBP. Grandal has the most RBIs for catchers in the past 4 years. He is 31, a year or two older than McCann, but keeps himself if good shape. I heard he was a leader that helped turn around that Brewer team last year.

I would keep them both, send Collins back to AAA so he can put up some big numbers and maybe become trade bait or maybe he does well enough we want to keep him and he can take over for McCann. Giolito likes to pitch to McCann so there is that. Plus Grandal played 1B in 20 games last year. When McCann plays as C then Grandal can DH or play 1B and let Jose DH.

C was not a position of need as much as RF or DH, but this can basically help with DH and it improves our defense a lot if he can help our young pitching by stealing strikes. One thing to remember tho, as soon as live umps go away, the edge a framer gives a team basically goes away. So that part of his game only helps us a year or a couple max.

true, but Wheeler can be one and then take a shot at one or two lower level starters and maybe get lucky with one.

I'm pretty sure they will keep McCann, and that he will catch about 35% of the time.

I was surprised by the Grandal deal. I thought McCann was a budding star and made the AL Allstar team. I didnt think catching was a major problem

Catching isn't a "problem" per se, the problem was the need for a lefty power bat, which they got.   Creating great depth at an important position is a bonus.

McCann hit like his norm of prior years after the All Star break, around .220. Grandal helped drive the Brewers to the playoffs. He was very important to them.
