Shoe, cubs brought up Happ who hit .298 in AAA, brought up Carantini who hit .344 in AAA.

Moncada is younger than both those guys (22) and only hit .282. Moncada has only played half a season at AA & half a season at AAA. He's clearly been rushed. And for what?

Smart teams like St. Louis would never do what the Sox are doing.

Miguel Gonzalez traded to the Rangers

The Rangers have reportedly struck a trade to acquire righty Miguel Gonzalez from the White Sox.

Basically turned a scrap heap pitcher (wasn't gonzalez a minor league FA signing after spring training last year?) and turned him into an underperforming but high ceiling young prospect. All before losing the pitcher for nothing in 2 months to free agency.

That is how it's done, right?

From the southsidesox write up:

"Also, his letters in his name can be rearranged to spell “Barf Question.”"

We picked up Gonzalez last year when Orioles released him.

Yep - I thought it was a minor league contract with some guaranteed (non-league-minimum) salary if he was called up.

Chris Volstead? WTF? What a waste of 40 roster space.

Just roster filler and a guy who can help us lose. If we had brought up someone like Kopech you would have screamed we were ruining him. Seriously. This guy is up to lose, no other reason.

There are probably 7 guys currently on the 40-man who won't be by next spring.

the 40 gets fixed in October/November, before the rule 5 draft & before those who are not on the 40 can become free agents.

There are guys in the minors who have to be protected & you normally want a spot open to pick a rule 5 guy - especially if you're so bad that you pick at the beginning of the draft.

So what's to prevent the guys like Volstad from being released when his contract is up?

Still not sure how having "filler" guys is a bad thing for the 2017 season.

Its not. Like you say, release them or outright them off the 40-man the day the season ends. Will be room to pick up one or two guys in Rule V draft, not a big deal.

The White Sox trimmed their 40-man roster to 33 by passing a quintet of players through waivers. Get more details at MLB Trade Rumors.

Here is that link Metodo put out for 2018 early mock draft.

I love the Sox choice, a switch hitting SS out of same academy as Lindor on Cleveland.

http://www.baseballamerica.com/draft/mlb-mock-draft-2018/#asvoLbDAOUZwohaL.974. White Sox

Chicago's rebuilding efforts have moved into overdrive with trade acquisitions and solid early returns from bat-first college first-rounders the last two years in Zack Collins and Jake Burger. If the White Sox continue in that vein, they could pursue college bats such as top Cape Cod League performers Greyson Jenista of Wichita State or Griffin Conine of Duke.

But Chicago won't have to limit itself to college bats, and a need for athletes could push it to pick a prep bat this high. If so, the best choice is Nander De Sedas, who attends the same Florida prep school that produced another American League Central shortstop, Francisco Lindor. De Sedas switch-hits like Lindor and has some lightning in his bat to go with middle-of-the-diamond athleticism.
PICK: Nander De Sedas, SS, Montverde (Fla.) Academy

I read the Tigers are shopping the greek god of hard contact, nick castellanos. The trade price for OFers has dropped in recent years, he would be a great get.

He sucks as a 3bman. they moved him to the OF late in the year.

here are the league leaders in hard hit percentage. -

He ranks 5th, if you organize by Soft hit, he's at 6th (lowest in the league) He had a terrible first 2 months but the talent is there. Change of teams could do him real good.

If the price is low enough he's the type of player to go after, only 25 and has great peripheral stats.
