Trayce reminded me of 1998 Craig Wilson. Didn't have great minor league stats, came up late season and hit very well. Regressed to the norm in '99, and out of baseball a year or two later.

Regarding the OF, I have a bad feeling they are going to have Garcia, Fields, and Sands "battle it out" in Spring Training. Ugh.

Montas is the big loss.

Yes, Montas is the one guy that would have been nice to keep. However, if Lawrie pans out then it will be worth it. We need a 3rd basemen badly!!

That's my guess too and it stinks. And I am not interested in Cargo either, Nor am I interested in giving the Flubs the Sam pick either.

He would have looked good in our starting lineup, maybe its Fulmer though. Its hard for me to part with someone who throws 100mph.

They didnt get their hands on Champman.. .watch him start the year in their BP and move into closers role if anything happens to Jansen.

I've now read several folks on various sites compare Montas upside and projections to Ken Giles. one of those writers, Eno Sarris, i have come to respect over the last few years... if he's pitching the idea. i'm buying.

BP is the new moneyball move thanks to the Royals. Dodgers will push to have the max effort bullpen they can.

Method, I'll gladly accept the deal. My view on Montas is that he throws hard but very straight, and will always have weight issues.

You must mean Frazier. Lawrie is at 2B for us.

I'm probably rehashing some old topics, but I've been away for a long time. I think the Sox have definitely improved at 3B, 2B, and C. Even if Avi comes back as the RFer, I think he would almost certainly have to have a better year than he did last year. I'm not sure if spending big money on someone like Fowler makes a lot of sense. I'd rather give Avi one more year to prove himself and just give the job to our best prospect if he doesn't cut it.

I don't have a lot of confidence in Saladino to be the every day SS, so I think the Sox are downgrading at that position. Ramirez didn't have his best year last year and his best playing days are definitely behind him, but I'm still not sure Saladino can be a solid SS at the Major League level.

I'm glad that the Sox didn't trade Quintana in the offseason, so I'm okay with the loss of Montas and Thompson. A top 3 of Sale, Quintana, and Rodon is pretty solid. Based on Danks salary, he likely will get a starter's spot, but he hasn't really pitched well enough to justify that spot, in my opinion. Hopefully he does better this year. I think Erik Johnson will be a pretty solid #5. Hopefully Fulmer will be ready to contribute after a few months.

Overall, I'm optimistic that they will improve from 2015, but they will really need some breakout performances from somebody to challenge for a playoff spot.

I like the improvements at 2B, 3B and C as well. I really hate to see us put Avi back out there, lets hope he can improve, he may regress. Darkhorse for SS may be Leury Garcia, he hit much better in AAA last year and his wheels can be an asset. Wish we would cut bait with LaRoche.

I like the starting rotation, I think Danks will be a bit more consistent this year. Johnson is iffy in my mind, but he really seemed to turn it around. I like the pen. We almost have one too many right now with Kahnle. But I look at the ERAs and I think 3.xx, 4.xx, 3.xx and think that is not too bad, but today good relievers are coming in under 2.00 more often than not. Get rid of Petricka and maybe Putnam.

I really don't like Avi... liked the acquisition, but we rushed him. Threw him into the big league lineup every day before he was ready. He still had holes at the plate... with plate discipline issues abound. Lo and behold, he's regressed and is now considered a bust.

Let guys develop in AAA.

So what about sending Avi down to AAA to start the season, and set up a platoon with JB and Austin Jackson? I also like msf's idea about Leury Garcia at short. He was starting to show something at the plate last year.

I don't want Fowler, need to restock in this strong draft (3 in the top 40 or something?)I am also glad we didn't get Yo anus and Upton, would have loved to have gotten Gordon. If by May LaRoche Danks still suck, cut them, and if the team is still doing decent, try some trades.

This is what you missed recently shawnabner. 3 years of me telling everyone that Quintana is a loser and he will continue to pitch just good enough to lose. The stat-men suddenly care about every stat but the win/loss record which is now apparently meaningless and will be abolished soon so Q can go into the HOF. We should have sold when the price was high.

I finally managed to convince Method, and had MSF on the fence but I think he wobbled back to the other side.

Giant mistake going for it again this year... we should have sold on Q... like loveland said...

Last year we could have gotten Xander for Q... this year... its possible we could have gotten Dansby/Incarite for Q....

instead we're looking at the lost oppurtunity cost on bad contracts and making more poor decisions to prop them up.

With Sale, Quintana, Rodon, Abreu, and perhaps Eaton on team friendly contracts, the Sox window to go for it is definitely now, in my opinion. Unfortunately, Danks and Laroche are just horrendously bad team contacts. Hopefully there will be some more maneuverability after this year. The Sox really need to continue to draft well and replenish the farm system. It would be nice to have Anderson be productive at shortstop next year. I'm still waiting for the Sox to develop an outfielder or catcher through the minors. It seems like a long time since that happened.

Why does everyone just assume that LaRoche will be terrible again? Isn't it possible that last year was just a bad year for him and that he may rebound this year? Guys do have down years sometimes. He was pretty decent before then.....he didn't just lose baseball skills overnight. Same with Melky. The team as currently constructed is improved but probably not a playoff contender given what looks to be a tough AL Central. Give the guys a chance to bounce back.

LaRoche has too long and slow of a swing. He is done.

I like Melky. I am one who finds it strange he is poor in LF, as when I have seen him he has done ok. But I think I would like him better as DH, get a new LF and a new RF and I would be giddy.
