White Sox could be quiet at Trade Deadline; Abreu staying put?

June 20: The White Sox have made some strides this season, playing .486 ball (35-37) after going 129-195 (.398) over the previous two seasons. However, the club is likely still at least a year away from seriously contending, and it isn’t likely to be among the top buyers this summer.

That said, Chicago might not be a major seller, either. MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal writes in an article for The Athletic (subscription required) that the club may prefer to keep players such as catcher James McCann and relievers Kelvin Herrera and Alex Colome to make a push next season. Each of those players is under control through 2020.

Jose Abreu can become a free agent this offseason, but according to Rosenthal, general manager Rick Hahn has said the first baseman is "very likely" to remain with the club.

As a result, it could be a quiet Trade Deadline for the White Sox.
