I get wanting to improve the defense, but it is really up the middle that needs improving. Outside of Robert, it has been putrid.
We can have light-bat players at @2B, SS and C, but it only works if the guys at the other positions are carrying bats that are average or better at their positions.

Moncada = Fail
Vaughn = Slightly Below Avg/Avg
Benintendi = Below Avg
Robert = Above Avg
RF = Fail
DH = Avg

Vaughn has to improve. He's been Greg Walker good. i.e. - good, but not good enough for position.
Eloy needs to stay healthy and produce.

If those 2 things happen, we still have 3B and RF holes to fill.
Benintendi is what he is. They knew what he was when they gave him 75 mil, he produced exactly what you can expect.

Assuming they trade Cease, someone has to take the bump every 5th day.
That group will likely include some rotation of Mike Soroka, Michael Kopech, Garrett Crochet, Erick Fedde and the winner of Prospect Survivor.

That is a lot of lightning to try and catch in one bottle.

It's early, but should the Sox trade Crochet for "can't miss" prospects at the trade deadline or is he someone they can build a pitching staff around?

I think it would be a big mistake to trade Crochet.  They probably talked about future contract expectations and it was over the Reinsdorfian line, so they have to dump him.

I also think maybe they should keep Fedde and Robert, but if do trade these guys, they better get it right.

Can't think of another non-rookie on the team who I would be bummed about them trading away.

Well, pretty sure they did not get the Fedde deal right.

I do like the return we got for Crochet. Real good LH hitting young catcher, a really good OF, an infielder who just gets on base and a young strong arm. IMHO I think the OF will be a stud. Was expected to be a top 3 pick this past draft, hurt his leg midseason and dropped to the Red Sox in the 12th slot. Switch hitter with power.

I wasn't a fan of trading Crochet (you should keep - and pay - good young pitchers), but I do like the return.  As you said, some very intriguing prospects.   But it makes me wonder how Getz was willing to take a bunch of schmoes for Cease.

White Sox with #1 pick in 2026 Amateur draft.  Let's hope they choose well!
