Yoán Moncada has hit safely in 18 of 19 games, José Abreu has hit safely in 16 contests with five homers and 18 RBI, and Luis Robert owns 10 multi-hit efforts over 19 games since 8/14.

Tony La Russa says Eloy Jiménez has a "significant bone bruise" on his knee after getting hit by that foul ball last night. Sox will see how he feels tomorrow, but he's unavailable tonight.

La Russa, noting quick turnaround to tomorrow's day game in Oakland: "Would be a little bit surprised if he plays tomorrow. Hopefully he'll play Friday."

Tony La Russa joked that guys will probably be wearing gloves in the dugout tonight after what happened to Eloy Jiménez last night.

Tim Anderson joked that he'll be wearing full catcher's gear.

Tim Anderson’s injury has often been described as general leg soreness, and he can’t quite put a finger on exactly what it is either.

He said taking BP today for the first time is a big step and that he’s run some good times (he claimed 3.2 home to first) while testing it out.

Lance Lynn said he’s got another bullpen to throw Friday, and that if it goes well, he should be ready to pitch whenever they slot him in.

He said it’s more of a case of managing his knee for the rest of the season, and the offseason will be more of a chance to recover fully.

Probables for weekend home series vs Red Sox:

Friday: Tanner Houck (0-3, 3.26 ERA) vs. TBD

Saturday: TBD vs. Dylan Cease (11-7, 3.87 ERA)

Sunday: Chris Sale (3-0, 2.52 ERA) vs. TBD

Grandal is really on a roll right now. This umpire is really shitty. Sox just keep hitting into DPs tonight:(

Vaughn's been in a nasty slump.

Leury has finally gotten his BA into the .260s.

Vaughn's 0 for 9 in this series.  The only thing he's hit is a screaming foul liner into the dugout off of Eloy's kneecap.   In his last 7 games he is 2 for 27 with a line of .074 /.138 /.074. He's hit the proverbial "rookie wall".  Too bad Engel still isn't on the active roster as they could use him right now.

That is a  very weak line-up which we have had for way too long this entire season. Tell me again how much Tony knows about putting a competitive team on the field, quick:(

It's what I've been griping about all year - the ease at which this team gets offensively shut down.

yeah, injuries have hurt - but something is just missing.

BTW, the great Cesar now .220 BA, .295 SLG with Sox. That's a hole in the lineup.

Engel didn't play at Charlotte last night for some reason.

Yep - Cesar has been very underwhelming.

It seems like this team shuts down way more when TA isn't playing.

Red Sox ace Chris Sale tested positive for Covid-19 and won't start this weekend. He'll be in Covid protocol for at least 10 days.
MLB Trade Rumors · mlbtraderumors.com

Sale, originally scheduled to pitch on Sunday, has tested positive for COVID-19 and will not pitch this weekend.

I hope the BoSox's recent outbreak doesn't bleed over to the Beloved somehow.

Eloy is back, no Andrew Vaughn tonight for the opener of this weekend’s Sox-Sox series

Eloy Jiménez still has some soreness from his bruise, but White Sox don’t think he’ll make it any worse playing through it. Tony La Russa said he told Jiménez not to bother looking for the steal sign tonight

Liam Hendriks said this yesterday about the Sox' September injuries:

"Let's be honest, Lance could pitch through a broken leg if it's the playoffs. And it's the same for Tim and Gio. ... If it's October, they're pushing through no matter what. They're damn near hockey players."

White Sox since All-Star break
Home: 5.60 R/G, 46 HR in 25 games
Road:  3.77 R/G,   27 HR in 26 games

Hopefully there will be plenty of home runs this homestand.

Well pitched game by them all. Bad defense cost a couple of runs but a well pitched game.

4 runs on only 6 hits. we are way too reliant on the HR.

with this recent rest Rodon should be ready for the post season.

Dylan Cease has allowed three runs or less in every start at Guaranteed Rate Field, struck out 10-plus in five of his last nine outings, and owns a 12.06 SO/9.0 IP rate overall in Chicago this season.

Dylan Cease closing in on 200 strikeouts this season.
He's at 197, third most in the AL.
Last year he finished tied for 39th.

Tony La Russa says Sox are considering using six starting pitchers in rotation following the Red Sox series. Reynaldo López would be sixth guy, should they go that route. La Russa says it's mostly due to the uncertainty about on how many days' rest they can pitch Carlos Rodón.

Andrew Vaughn is dealing with leg soreness, hence the back-to-back days off.

Luis Robert this year vs. last year.
2020:  .233/.302/.436 with a 100 OPS+ in 56 games
2021:   .333/.369/.520 with a 142 OPS+ in 50 games

Another Screwy Game Managed By Tony LaRussa. A little league manager could have done better in this one:(
