Watching on Gamecast and was wondering why he came out early. Assumed he was not pitching well with 4 walks, two wild pitches and a bad fifth.

because you're a Chicago sports fan. In 2005, I didn't stop worrying until Uribe's throw was safely in Paulie's glove in the 9th inning of game 4 of the World Series.

The only time I didn't worry as a Chicago sports fan was during the Bulls second threepeat.

Yasmani Grandal is 7-14 (.500/.611/1.429) with a double, four home runs, 11 RBI and four runs scored in his first four games since being reinstated from the injured list on 8/27.

Yasmani Grandal has an OBP of .522 vs lefties this season.

Grandal's slashline is now .210/.403/.508.

Of all seasons of .400/.500 (and at least 250 PA), the lowest BA is Ken Phelps with .247/.406/.526 in 1986.

“I pulled my hammy a little bit,” Giolito said. “It reminded me of when I pulled my hammy in 2019 but the sensation [this time] wasn’t as intense and painful. That’s why I wanted to keep going and see how it felt but it didn’t want to hold strong, so that’s why I came out.”

Tony La Russa said too soon to say if Giolito will miss a start, but they’ll be cautious after he’s re-evaluated.

Tony La Russa asked to describe Luis "La Pantera" Robert's defense:

"Gazelle. He's got the stride where he eats up ground. It's like he's just gliding along. ... He really runs so beautifully."

Kopech on Robert: "They guy is unreal out there. It seems like he was kind of built in a lab a lot of times."

Tonight was Liam Hendriks' 30th save of the season, and only the 4th of those 30 in which he did not get a strikeout.

Lol. I was at the game last night. I was nervous in both the 8th and 9th as well but they got through it unscathed. Terrible that we were nervous - against the Pirates! - with the "2 best closers in baseball."

Tony La Russa on Tim Anderson, who went on the IL with a left hammy issue: "Some lingering soreness. Let's get certainty that he's 100 percent....the 10 days allows that to happen."

Third base coach Joe McEwing got hit in the tailbone by Abreu's foul ball last night. Said it was lucky it was on a bounce but still not pleasant.

Abreu on the foul ball that clipped McEwing: "He took a long time not talking with me after that. I think he was mad."

Eloy Jimenez and Luis Robert stood and watched and added their comments for about half of Jose Abreu's 12 minute media session. At one point Jimenez chimed in, "We love you, Pito."

I asked Abreu about Jimenez and Robert, he shook his head with a smile and said: "They’re my kids. They are always messing around. That’s why they’re here, that’s why you can see them there. Just messing around."

Abreu: "I’m happy because I know that I have two MVPs with me. They are going to be MVPs, Luis and Eloy, they are going to be MVP players."

La Russa said Jake Lamb did a good job for the team and has a lot of baseball left.

La Russa on Giolito: "The exam today showed a slight hamstring (strain). Will miss at least a start."

Giolito "will miss at least a start," La Russa said. "But optimistic we'll get him back sooner rather than later."

Romy González is in awe about playing with José Abreu, being managed by Tony La Russa, but ended with:

“I worked extremely hard. I feel like I belong. I'm not going to be overwhelmed, I don't think. I might be nervous and stuff. That makes me human. But I feel like I belong."

Romy Gonzalez might get a start this weekend in Kansas City, especially if/when the Royals pitch a left-hander.

Romy Gonzalez was assigned uniform number 5.

La Russa said they’ll have to see where Romy González’s at-bats come, but that they’ll use him on the infield and that a game against a lefty starter in Kansas City might offer an opportunity

Tony La Russa said pulling Rodón after 5 IP, 77 pitches was more about observing him and his stamina than a specific pitch count.

La Russa said Kimbrel wasn't available, a physical issue but not his arm. Should be available Friday, he said.

White Sox have placed Lucas Giolito on the IL with a strained left hamstring, retroactive to 9/1, and recalled Ryan Burr

Tony La Russa said of placing Lucas Giolito on IL: “Don’t want the pressure of him trying to decide he’s ready before he’s really ready.”

He will throw a bullpen on 9/8 to test out where he’s at physically.
