Reynaldo López is just the second MLB pitcher in the modern era (since 1901) to throw 5.0-plus perfect IP of relief with seven-plus strikeouts, along with Cleveland’s Jake Westbrook on 4/19/04 vs. Detroit (7.0 IP/ 7 SO). (via STATS)

Yasmani Grandal is the first catcher in MLB history and 13th MLB player since 1920 to record at least two eight-plus RBI games in his career. ( via STATS)

Yasmani Grandal is the first #WhiteSox hitter to have 8 RBI in a game since Sept. 4, 1995, when Robin Ventura hit 2 grand slams vs. Rangers.

Yasmani Grandal ties the #WhiteSox single game record for RBI in a game, with 8

Grandal tonight
Robin Ventura 9/4/1995
Jim Spencer 7/2/1977
Jim Spencer 5/14/1977
Tommy McCraw 5/24/1967
Carl Reynolds 7/2/1930

Yasmani Grandal is the 4th player since RBI became official in 1920 with 2 career 4-hit, 8-RBI games, joining Nelson Cruz, Mookie Betts, and Jimmie Foxx.

Crosstown history:

Not sure if this means anything but the Cubs scored six in the second inning (and led 8-0 at one point) on June 28, 2002 on the South Side.

Sox came back to win 13-9.

Paul Konerko: 4-4, 2 HR, 4 R, 4RBI.

I want to thank the Dr. who operated on Lopez's eyes and the Dr. who operated on Grandal's knee.

I loved Jim Spencer but Squires had a better glove.

Lance Lynn: "Every once in a while you need a slap in the face to get yourself going.

"I gave up seven runs, it doesn't matter who you are facing. Just a shitty night on my part."

“Just a shitty night on my part,” said Lance Lynn, who said he’ll try to quickly make adjustments from this one, “It’s not good to suck, so you learn to not let it happen again.”

Lance Lynn on how he's learned to respond to starts like these:

"It's not good to suck. So you learn to don't let it happen again, because then it makes for a miserable couple weeks. So get myself ready to go for the next one and make sure I don't suck again. That's the plan."

"First time he’s had that kind of game," La Russa said of Lynn. "It happens. They pitched better, hit better, managed better. It wasn’t much of a contest."

I love Lance Lynn's honesty about what he did or didn't do. The same thing with Hendricks:)

Dylan Cease is 4-0 with a 2.85 ERA (13 ER/41.0 IP), 56 strikeouts and a .190 (28-147) opponents average over his last seven starts.

Dylan Cease has struck out 10+ batters in five of his last nine starts at Guaranteed Rate Field.

Dylan Cease reached a new single-season professional high in innings (143.2)

"I feel great. I feel like my velocity has been picking up. My stuff is sharp, my command is as good as it’s ever been in my career right now. I’m ready to just keep taking the ball every fifth day."

#WhiteSox starter Dylan Cease: “When things are clicking like that today, we’re a scary team. And I think just in general, we’re a scary team."

Luis Robert is hitting .382/.425/.676 with five doubles, five homers, 13 RBI and 16 runs scored in 16 games since being reinstated from the injured list on 8/9.

Tony La Russa said that with off days, Yasmani Grandal, Luis Robert and Eloy Jiménez should play both games of Pirates series, but will be watched closely.

"As a matter of fact, we watch them all closely. What else have we got to do?"

Jose Abreu with his 6th career 100-RBI season, tying Paul Konerko for 2nd-most in White Sox history (Frank Thomas had 10).

It's been 30 years since a player led the league in RBI in 3 consecutive seasons. Abreu has a shot at it.

Tony La Russa on Jose Abreu, who reached 100 runs driven in for the 6th time in his career: "He's one of the elite run producers in the history of the game."

The #WhiteSox had 4 multi-HR games at home this season.

Grandal 6/4
Grandal 6/30
Zavala (3) 7/31
Grandal 8/27

All catchers.  Until today when centerfielder Luis Robert hit two.

1st thing I did when looking at the box score was check the # of pitches thrown by Cease (108).

"Is this season FUN or WHAT?!!!!"

Depends on who they're playing.  When they're playing good teams (Rays, Yanks, Jays, etc) this team can be pretty frustrating to watch.

Not for me. Playing the good teams are a good time for me also because a lot more goes into it, especially manager decisions. This is the only area that I am concerned about entering the play-offs. Tony's decisions. He's been kind of shaky as far as I am concerned in so far as the replay decisions and the relief pitcher decisions. You cannot screw these things up in tight games which they will certainly face in the play-offs.

Luis Robert since coming back from the IL (Aug. 9): .382/.425/.676, five doubles, five homers, 13 RBI and 16 runs.

Luis Robert is 24-60 (.400) with five home runs and 12 RBI in his last 14 games.

OF Billy Hamilton set to be activated tomorrow, La Russa said.

OF Adam Engel is slated for rehab assignment when the Sox begin road trip this weekend.

Anderson (sore legs, hamstrings) probably out till this weekend, La Russa said.

Lance Lynn said this knee issue has been bothering him since the Field of Dreams game. He’s dealt with it a little before in his career, and when he got ejected against the A’s, he was headed into the clubhouse to get a knee brace. He doesn’t want to miss more than a start.

Lynn figures to miss one start, La Russa said.

Reynaldo Lopez will likely take Lynn's spot in the rotation, La Russa said.
