Part of it is less free time to make the 5-6 hour commitment (40 minute commute each way to the Cell and the actual game time)

And it's a lot more for plenty of people, and even for the ones where it's less, it's a much bigger ordeal to get to and from these things than it used to be. It's just become a bigger pain in the ass to do anything in the city, it's ridiculously congested and expensive, people are on the whole much ruder and more self-absorbed, etc. . . .why bother? Especially given the alternatives AndyMacFAIL states.  Or is this all JadedJohnJeter perception? I knoweth not.
