I wouldn't call him a bust quite yet.  He is, as you said, still pretty young.

Besides, this whole team of .250 hitters is going to be embarrassing when the season begins.  They're going to make mediocre pitchers look like Cy Youngs.

Though I put very little stock in ST, I'm afraid I'm in Wshfl's corner here -- Viciedo's striking out more than me in my college days.  Doesn't look like he's figured out the curve ball, send him back to AAA.  He's still only 23, give him another year.

Did notice that Dunn has about dozen walks over 3 Ks -- that bodes extremely well for this team if he rebounds from that cranio-rectal insertion we watched last year.

Personally, I think this team will surprise and be better than expected.  Have no evidence to support it, but it seems like the Sox have better years when heading into the season with nothing but low expectations.

Gee, then I guess the Sox might even finish in fourth place, instead of fifth.

Sorry.  I don't like this team as is.

With Viciedo's 0-4 on Sunday his average dropped to .100. Ventura is preaching patience with Viciedo

Just another big, slow guy who is bad at defense with a hole in his swing.

Prototypical Sox player.

Ken Williams dismisses predictions of horrific season for White Sox

BY DARYL VAN SCHOUWEN dvanschouwen@suntimes.com March 24, 2012 6:54PM

GLENDALE, Ariz. — The White Sox bashing started when the first odds from Las Vegas were posted. It continued with an unnamed scout who, after following them this spring, said they could lose 100 games. And, most recently, there was a prediction by Sports Illustrated (67-95) that they will finish dead last in the American League Central.

Was general manager Ken Williams taken seriously when he uttered ‘‘rebuilding’’ in December? Granted, Mark Buehlre was allowed to walk away in free agency, and closer Sergio Santos and All-Star outfielder Carlos Quentin were traded for prospects. Those are significant losses that leave the Sox (16-1 odds to win their division) paling in comparison to the heavily favored Detroit Tigers 1-4.

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/whitesox/11497898-574/ken-williams-dismisses-predictions-of-horrific-season-for-white-sox.html

The big question is if they go 67-95 and dead last in the AL Central is that enough to get KW canned? If thats what it takes to get him fired, I sure hope it happens.

I see the Sox got their AAA fodder to replace Johnny Short. They picked up Greg Golson, fast as the wind, bad OBP is his history.

Sox appear to be gathering steam for that critical 1st week of the season schedule, heh

It seems like the Sox are winning more this spring training than the last 4 or 5 spring trainings put together.

I agree. Now I hope they do the right thing and send Viciedo down, let Fuko and Lilly split LF

I'd be much happier with Fukudome in RF and Lil'Beast in LF.

Rios has done nothing to prove he's an everyday big leaguer since he's been here. Fukudome can get on base (.350+ OBP), and Lil'Beast did everything he was asked (and more) last year.

Yep, Sox will lose at least 90 games this year.

At least it will probably mean the end of the KW era.

Not sure, but I think at this point I'd be happier with Armando Rios than Alexis.

That would be wonderful if that happened. Should have happened before Ozzie was booted out the door

Why do you keep saying this? Ozzie was not booted anywhere. He chose to leave, he WANTED to leave. I don't think he would have stayed even if KW was fired mid-season. Ozzie QUIT, people. Glad he and his punk kids are gone, too.

God, the pessimism here is way over the top. You guys are assuming there's no improvement at all by any of the players who underperformed last year. Sure there are a lot of things that can go wrong but there are also a lot that can go right (kinda like half the teams in the league!!). If the pitching is anywhere near what it's capable of being, this team isn't quite as bad as you all are making it out to be. They might actually pleasantly surprise.

And even if it ends up being a bad year it still might not be the end of KW. JR knows this is sort of a rebuilding year.

If everyone here is going into the season hoping for the team to lose 100 games just to spite KW then you're going to make this place miserable for the rest of us who actully want to see the team do well.

Joseph, I agree. Fuko in RF (or Lilly), the other in LF, send down Viciedo, Rios on the bench. I would prefer they just outright release Rios though.

Never going to happen... Rios is ours to suffer thru as long as KW is here... he doesnt know how to admit his mistakes.

Ozzie did not quit... he was released from his contract when he asked to stay here LONGER.

You make the call...

Guillen said he had a great talk with Reinsdorf, who respected his decision.

"It was my call and I appreciated the White Sox organization letting me do what I like to do and what is best. ...
Maybe not the best, maybe it's the worst," Guillen said. "You don't know what is out there. Maybe I'm dreaming.
I might not appreciate what I got here. You don't know. You have to close the page and move on. That's life.
Hopefully the next book treats me the way this book treated me."

Yeah, I suppose I could go into the President's office right now and tell him its me or my boss.

Wonder how that would go...

Ozzie made a choice.

Hmm... Well... i take it a bit differently...

Is your boss a giant douche that is totally and utterly incompetent? if so i hope it goes well... if not i hope you have an employer (or multiple other) waiting to pay you more money then your current employer... because well ozzie did.

Basically if you are holding some cards... play them...

Actually, I'm looking for a good bounce-back year from Dunn.  Speaking of "dunn," I think Gordon Beckham is.  Morel will improve slightly.  Lillibridge may be a little better offensively too.  Rios will continue to suck.

I'm hoping that DeAza will have a decent year.  He looked good to me last season.

I can see 2012 being the visible beginning of Konerko's decline.

But you forget... Buehrle is gone.  I don't believe any other Sox starter posted a winning record last year.  Oh yeah, and our closer, Santos, is gone too, in exchange for peanuts, leaving Thornton to be our ninth-inning savior.  Thornton!

Will Floyd or Danks win 15 games next season?  I sincerely doubt it.

I don't hope the team loses 100 games just to spite KW.  I hope there are signs of life and that the team might be a contender in '13.  But the fact is, KW made this bed, and he's making us lie in it.
