speaking of former posters...

Anyone here still in contact with soxfun?  He never made the move here from worldcrossing where he was pretty much inactive for a few years.

IIRC, he had a business in the Wisconsin Dells and was planning to open a sports museum in/near Navy Pier?  I also seem to remember he went to Lyons Township High School where he pitched on the baseball team.  IIRC he had some heart problems.

Anyone still in contact with him or know how is he doing?

..and there's Method's old nemesis Minoats and JoshPR who haven't been active here for quite awhile.  I've notice a few JoshPR posts lately at soxtalk but how's Minoats doing?

Soxfun was pretty sick if I recall, may have lived in same building as Jheter or nearby. The way some of his posts were towards the end I do not think he made it. In fact, didn't his wife get on his account and post how bad things were going?

Yes, he was in Indiana, taking care of his father who was blind. He started up a business of some sorts, not a clean job if I recall correctly. Something like pumping out shitters.

He was on here a couple different times since then, but that is all I recall.

Southern BBQ near Sox Park.  This place is 4 blocks directly north of US Cellular Park. Anybody try it?

Hope you were able to make a doubleheader out of that day, Method.  Sox v. Rays in the afternoon followed by Hawks v. Lightning that night.  Did either of your teams win???

:-)

I never really left, come by to check Min's minor league reporting, but I stopped posting.

Have hated the product for years, I guess since they signed Adam Dunn.

Don't see how the offense gets worse each year, this year it's so bad it's painful to watch.

And there really is nothing to follow in the minors.

Say Pete, and et al -- I remember that you were up and about when Naked City aired.  Do you remember a crime show called M Squad with Lee Marvin?  Ran for three years starting in 1957?  They say it did for Chicago what Naked City did for New York.  Anyway, I've never heard of the show but I got a birthday present of all 117 episodes.  Can't wait to have a look see.  The music is supposed to be very good.  I'll post my review(s) after viewing.

Yup, remember watching M-Squad as a wee one but in all honesty was too young in that period to realize it was set in Chicago.  I think the opening sequence of the police movie genre parody "Police Squad" was a takeoff on M-Squad.

The first time I can remember seeing Chicago immortalized on TV was watching late night showings of the classic "Beginning of the End" starring a pre - Mission Impossible Peter Graves and the always vivacious Peggy Castle.  In the film grasshoppers metamorphosize into giant status after eating radioactive grain, develop a taste for human flesh, and then get hoppin' mad and attack Chicago.  There were great images of the locusts climbing the Wrigley Building, Merchandize Mart, crossing the draw bridges on the river and hanging around other Chicago landmarks.  It was "Must See TV" before there was "Must See TV"

They don't make 'em like that anymore!

BTW when I was a small one the original Prudential Building (I think it's called One Purudential Tower now?) was THE tallest building in Chicago.  Things have changed a little since then

Nice, I enjoyed that, I remember that movie.

George Carlin's "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television": "shit", "piss", "fuck", "cunt", "cocksucker", "motherfucker", and "tits".
