Jeter, you need to get down there and try it.  Ramova's chili is thinner than Lindy's (which I also like quite a bit), let's say on the slightly "soupy" side... BUT the seasonings and spices are superb.  Not super fiery, but has a little bite... and there's just a hint of cinnamon, although it doesn't taste like that Cincinnati stuff that claims to be chili.   Get it plain, with no beans... it's real Depression/1940s style chili.  Just like your grandparents ate.

I haven't had Bishop's, but have always wanted to try it.

I'm planning on being in Chicago the first weekend of April to get some of the last of that Ramova chili.  I am really sad about this.  Dammit.

Just CANNOT get enough of Gillian Welch's new record The Harrow & The Harvest.  Every listen brings a new favorite cut.

$26 Hot dog! Texas Rangers to serve 2-foot, 1-pound wiener

Team president Nolan Ryan did not mince words with ESPN Radio in Dallas regarding the Texas Rangers' most recent acquisition — a two-foot-long, one-pound gourmet hot dog that feeds three or four fans and costs $26:

"It has to be a tremendous wiener. And then we're getting some kind of exotic bread flown in from France. And I don't know what kind of condiments you put on that. But I do want to look at it.

    "That's a wild dog."

Holy StrasBurgers! Everything really is bigger in Texas. A result of the work of Rangers Ballpark chef Cristobal Vasquez, the dog is a Coney Island-style wiener that will be topped with shredded cheese, chili and sauteed onions. Not to mention the bun, apparently made of "exotic bread flown in from France" — which might be the most Nolan Ryan thing that Nolan Ryan has ever said.

I'd agree; Nolan Ryan is a d*ck.

Pfffft - that's nothing.

http://www.mlive.com/news/grand-rapids/index.ssf/2009/03/whitecaps_fifth_third_burger_n.html

Five 1/3-pound patties.... the "bun" itself is a full pound, and it's served in a pizza box.

To a Texan, bread from Arkansas is "exotic."

That Fifth Third Burger has salsa and Fritos on it too.  My stomach hurts just thinking about it.

It's actually pretty good - to split it between 3 to 4 people, it's not a bad deal ($20 total).

If a single person can consume the entire 4-pound finished product in one sitting, the team plans to give him or her a special T-shirt.

And, that T-shirt will of course be sized one size up from usual.

Oddly, I agree with JosephC - that's not a bad deal to split between 4-5 people.  See, I did change that a bit.  I would remove the fritos and ask for the sour cream on the side.....

Remove the Fritos and substitute Funyuns.  Or Combos.

Btw, the Smithsonian Channel has a lot of good stuff.

For anyone who gives a ****. The Allman Brothers Band last weekend in NYC was amazing. We were there the final night, the night Gregg missed as he was hospitalized during the Sat night show midway thru with herniated disc problems.

Warren took over and they did not miss a beat. Bruce Katz filled in for Allman. They must have had a dozen guests, one was John Popper, another Jimmy ? (Wet Willie singer and harp player, also played Sax). Hook Herrera played some harp later on, amazing, guess he is from the Black Star Orchestra. Col. Bruce Hampton sang on the Spoonful cover.

Great concert, started at 8pm, ended at 12:30, maybe a 1/2 hour break in the middle. The stay was very nice (Hotel Beacon) and we really had a great time.

Thanks for the heads up.  Actually, I think I saw that about a month ago - it was pretty damned good.

And yeah, that is a good channel.

Yeah, I will have to get you in the brackets next year. I cut it down from 55 to 26 this year. Left out a bunch of folks I used to work with. I had all 3 spots sewn up with my 3 brackets (mine, Alaska and Little Joe Lars) until Ohio State choked against Kansas.

I will be in town Thursday, Friday, and part of Saturday to get my last fix of Ramova Grill chili.  I plan on taking home at least a gallon of the stuff, too.

I just saw something on a cooking or travel channel about the variety of ethnic foods in Detroit, incl a supermarket which catered to Arabs (tons of prepared foods also, looked incredible!) as well as the country's largest farmer's market, variety of other stuff, Polish and Yemenis and Bangladeshis in Hamtramck. Who knew! It was almost enough to make me want to visit!

PLEASE tell me you have taken advantage of this stuff Fury.

I watched that Monkees thing on Smithsonian a couple years ago.    The side story about The Archies is what I remember - and that guys mannerisms.

George Carlin's "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television": "shit", "piss", "fuck", "cunt", "cocksucker", "motherfucker", and "tits".
