I don't want him back at all unless he gets a haircut.

It was clearly a case of "him or me" and JR chose Kenny.   Then Ozzie quit.

Doesn't matter what those circumstances were. He still had 1 year to go on his contract and refused to fulfill it. He was being a petulant child because he didn't get his way.

Back when the economy was good it was pretty standard procedure to approach your boss if you had an offer from another company and ask your current employer to either meet or supersede the offer.  I've done it myself.

Yes, the baseball system works via contracts but what Ozzie did was not that far out of the norm.

Taking it to the media, however Ozzie it may be, was still very childish.

Yes, Method, I think Ozzie should have sat Rios and Dunn except in those situations where matchups dictated they play.
The manager doesn't pay the players. His job is to give the team the best chance to win by putting players in positions where they have best chance to succeed.
Ozzie did not do that.

I would very much like to see Sandy Alomar Jr. get the job. Catchers have a history of doing well, and this is a good time.
We are trying to develop Flowers into our starting C.

If Alomar is hired, I think we've improved.

Speaking of catchers, I wouldn't be surprised if Carlton Fisk is on KW's short list...

Just a hunch.

Of course Ozzie jumped ship.

!st reason money. Who wouldn't want to double your salary? And, yes, his kids are going to live off the old man.

Second, the franchise is a mess. Kenny suddenly developed the turde touch, everything he does turns to shite for some cosmic reason. Rios, Dunn & Peavy take up 40% of the payroll & return nothing.

I was thinking of Buehrle the other day & thought - does he really want to end his career in this wreck of a team. He pitched well enough to win 18 games this year, but no offense & a pen that blew multiple games for him left him with 13 wins.

Won't he want to go where he can win?

In all fairness, Ms. Love, let's not compare the kind of hardball you play with the negotiating tactics that your average schmuck has at his disposal.

THURSDAY, 1:15pm: The White Sox announced that they assigned the contract of right-hander Ricardo Andres to the Marlins to complete the deal. Andres appeared in 12 games at Rookie Ball this year in his first professional season. The 20-year-old posted a 6.32 ERA in 15 2/3 innings, striking out 11.

I also buy into the whole catcher to manager thing.  Too many examples of it working.  That said, i'm intrigued by the idea of Coop taking over.  Which means it will be Martinez

The most interesting move for a manager would be Sandberg... and all the fallout that would bring.

Plus, he'd be the exact opposite of Ozzie... he'd say virtually nothing, to anyone.

You know, I was under the same impression about this.  But having just gone and looked up Mgrs with the most wins, there's not a preponderance of catchers there.  You've got Torre, Bochy, Scioscia, Houk, maybe Torborg and Ned Yost.

But among the guys who made more of a career out of managing than playing -- Alston, Sparky, Herzog, Tom Kelly, LaSorda, LaRussa, Cox, Mauch, Dick Williams -- none of them were catchers.

Yes.  Buerhle's agent says they will listen to any offer from any team.  I don't think the B-man is motivated to be the highest paid.  He will get plenty no matter where he goes and base his decision on which team is most likely to have the most success.

If he leaves I hope he goes to the NL so I won't have to watch him pitch against the Beloved.

hahah, Boyer can barely conceal his disdain:

Some talk of Mike North even possibly being a candidate as replacing DJ on the radio. Not that DJ has even been shown the door at this point. Some "journalist" over there occasionally gets Boyer's ear with what I'm sure are some retarted emails and that was his response.

There was also mention of Steve Dahl, which would be amusing. Between Farmer and Dahl, pretty sure you might not even know you were listening to a baseball game. . .which I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with.

Heck yeah, I'd listen to that duo - but only if Dahl alternated his voice each inning between "Anthony" and "Tommy Skillethead"...

Don’t rule out the Sox making a play for a bigger name [for hitting coach], such as Jim Thome.

Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf loves Thome, 41, whose playing career likely has come to an end after 21 seasons and 604 home runs. The two share the annual habit of meeting for dinner to talk about life and baseball after the season, and a major-league source said Reinsdorf was eager to move this year’s meeting up.
