Announcement Hawk just read said Ozzie requested to be let out of his contract and the Sox obliged.   Where's my minor leaguers?

mlbtraderumors.com reports that the Sox retain the rights to compensation if any other team hires Ozzie for 2012.

No way Ozzie walks away without another job.     A deal has probably been done with the Marlins, but for some reason can't announce it yet.   If they wait two days, does a player no longer need to go through waivers when traded?

This split was more about Guillen and Williams wanting Reinsdorf — whom they each consider a father figure — to pick a favorite.   The Sun-Times learned two weeks ago that Reinsdorf did, telling Williams he would be back for next season.

As far as what’s next for the Sox. Forget Tony La Russa, as one source already said he wasn’t interested in managing with Williams as GM. That leaves the likes of a Buddy Bell, Class AAA Charlotte manager Joe McEwing or former Sox catcher Sandy Alomar Jr.

Well, since Alomar is the only ex-Sox currently coaching at the ML level, he gets the job by default.

I'm still thinking they are coming Black Sox as the Marlins really don't want to be hit with a tampering charge.

If this were written by anyone other than Cowley I might believe it. However, Cowley has it in for Williams and I bet he threw that part in himself.

This is a bittersweet day. I wish Ozzie well but a change was needed. If KW is next to go that would be just fine too.

Bell equals fail.   Rumor I heard was Ventura could be in line for a position.  Can't believe he would get managing job though.

Guillen was not the problem.  How many teams do you think are lining up to hire Williams should he go??    Ozzie will go to the Marlins but not because it is the only team that would take him.

This is as dissappointing as almost anything I can ever remember with this team.  Ozzie is off and we are stuck with KW.  Blecko.

Guillen was not the problem.

I don't think anyone is saying he is the only problem. But he was part of the problem and you cannot trade all the players. He also didn't always put his team in the best position to succeed. He verbally attacked his fanbase multiple times and couldn't keep his kid in line when his son was verbally attacking former players, to the point that current Sox players said they wanted to punch him in the face.

And let's face it. The players on the field have changed, yet the results have been the same: a team that starts off slow, plays poor fundamentals and misses the playoffs. The one constant has been the coaching staff. And you cannot possibly put all the blame on Greg Walker. So this is a move that was needed. Will the next manager be successful? Maybe not. But that doesn't mean that the Sox should keep Guillen forever for fear that someone else may be just as bad.

Blecko.

Ms. Love breaking out the expletives?  That shows you just how bad this situation is.

Apparently Hawk called out the team for starting out flat the last 2 years and Konerko stated something to the effect that this "regime has run its course."

One sportswriter's tweet was "Cooper staying with the team...win-win for the Sox tonight." So it sounds so far like most baseball people feel this is a good move.

Alomar is NOT the only ex-Sox player coaching in the majors.

Among the former White Sox players now coaching in the American League are: Davey Martinez, bench coach of the Tampa Rays; Scott Radinsky, bullpen coach of the Indians; Tim Belcher, pitching coach of the Indians; Jaime Navarro, pitching coach of the Mariners; Joel Skinner, bench coach of the A's; Gary Pettis, 1st base coach of the Rangers; former Mariners' manager Don Wakamatsu is the bench coach for Toronto and former Royals' manager Tony Pena, who played for the Sox in '97, is the Yankees' bench coach.

I was only referencing that short list of three posted in the Sun-Times piece, but thanks for this list.

How in the hell does Navarro get a coaching gig?  Who would listen to that tool?  If that's where the bar is set, look for Sammy Sosa to be hired as someone's hitting coach soon...

He damned better be gone within a week. He has been the architect of this disaster. Why give him a pat on the back.

And what two minor leaguers Blackie? Better be something decent, at least off their 40 man roster.

“With the rings, I can’t do [anything] with that,’’ he said. “But with money, I can go buy me a new boat, I can go buy me a new car, I can dress my wife the way I want to dress her, I can go to Spain. With the ring, I can go to United Airlines and say, ‘Hello, I won the 2005 championship. Can you fly me to Spain?’ Hell, no.

“I work in this job for money. I don’t work for nothing. Money. That’s it. The ring? [Bleep] the ring. I don’t even wear my [bleeping] rings. I don’t.’’

Good luck in Florida, Oz. You may not win but at least you'll have your money so you don't "die poor."

Ozzie better be careful or he's gonna talk himself out of the Miami gig...

It's hard to believe, but it appears KW and JR had Ozzie a little bit bottled up over the years.  His rants now are just plain moronic.  Good riddance.
