Sox ink John Jay & Kelvin Herrera.

Came here to read about it, but it seems no one is interested.

My take - Herrera is really good, Jay seems a bit long in the tooth.

Herrera is a great signing at that price. Jay is our contingency for Harper obviously.

Harper is going back to the nationals most likely. Machado will end up in NY.

How are the nationals capable of spending this much money, but the sox cant find get past 125 million in payroll.  easy answer.

Please note those numbers dont factor in the newly signed TV deal the Sox just got.

Where do those numbers come from and why do the Cubs and Red Sox have exactly the same "real revenue" down to the penny?

MLB revenues hit an all time high of 10.3 billion in 2019, MLB payrolls declined for the first time since 2010.

There is a strike coming...

I wouldn't give up on Machado just yet.

The Sox will spend... they are willing to drop a ton on both Machado and Harper.

I want them both too but would take Harper if I had to choose.

And I am disappointed that we seem to be putting more effort into Machado.

I think it's pretty obvious that neither the White Sox or the Phillies are Harper or Machado "first choice" and each of their "preferred team" hasn't made them an offer that they would accept.  Both of them also want to be the BIGGEST free agent signee this off-season.  So it's a matter of who blinks first Bryce Harper/Scott Boras or Manny Machado/Dan Lozano.

No way that's the final offer. Sox wouldn't even be in the conversation if it were. And more teams would be "in" if that were the case. It's just a whole lot of posturing going on between the teams and the agents. We won't know who offered what until the two guys actually sign.

Yeah, that 7/175 report is laughable.  No way it's true.

ESPN's Buster Olney presented those numbers on Wednesday afternoon. Word is the White Sox aren't willing to go beyond seven years for Machado -- or Bryce Harper, for that matter -- but Heyman writes that the dollar value in this case "almost surely begins with a 2," as in $200-million-plus. The Phillies and Yankees are the only other two teams that have been connected publicly to Machado, though darkhorses could certainly emerge if the price drops well below the $300 million he was believed to be demanding at the start of the winter. Machado's agent Dan Lozano released a statement Wednesday evening decrying "completely wrong" reports about the market for his client. The saga continues
