When did SoxNet become "WSI - The Sequel"?   They used to be good for rumors during Trade Week, now it's all arguing about trading Quintana for Puig.     I am now dumber for spending 4 minutes there.

I never go to their main forum, just to the Future Sox forum.

From an "inside source" at SoxTalk:

Deals for Shark to TOR and SF in place. The deals are sitting there. KW is still "all in" on '16 and Rick is not so there's that drama right now.

There was also the news that the Sox might wait til after this series with Boston to determine if they will sell or not. Even if they sweep Boston I don't see how winning 7 games against 2 pretty bad teams should change their mindset. What's the overall opinion from the rest of you? You think the Sox should stand pat and try to "go for it" this year?

Sure, I realize there's the whole comp pick with Shark and all but I just hope they're not passing up a better deal via trade in order to maybe, possibly win a WC spot.

 ??? ???

The problem is that they're only 4.5 games out of the 2nd wild card (currently held by Minnesota)... though there are 5 teams to overcome, a 4.5 game lead isn't insurmountable.

With as streaky as this team is, they'll win just enough to make it interesting, then fall short.

i don't see any team above us who is going to get hot and get to 90 wins. good chance the second WC team ends up with 85ish wins. Sox can get there is the bats continue to hit.

Only if we think that someone like E. Johnson will be an adequate replacement.

Do not trade pitching, unless someone offers us a good package for Shark.

Yes, definitely. We have the pitching to get into playoffs and then with the starters we have, who knows.

Per Jon Morosi, better chance of the Tigers trading Price than the Sox trading Samardzija

Looks like the Sox are contending and the Tigers aren't.

What happened with the Wilmer Flores last night? His agent issued this as part of a statement:

Being traded is part of baseball, but finding out the way Wilmer did, is not.

How did he find out he had been traded?

They kept playing him, did not pull him from the game. He found out via the fans and got quite the ovation from Mets fans I thought. Still, tell the guy in the dugout and get him the hell out of the game.

Seriously. I felt bad for the guy. But you'd think with a deal as close as it was that the Mets would want him out of the game anyway and not risk him getting injured or something.

Would love Cespedes but I really really hope KW/Hahn aren't dumb enough to trade the few good young prospects we have a 2-month rental (and to a division rival at that). We'd be giving Detroit some good prospects and then they can just turn around and re-sign him as a FA. No thanks.

Cespedes and Justin Upton are two we are talking about. Best part is, if we get one, Garcia goes to part-time DH splitting time with LaROACH. Garcia is just another Viciedo, do not think we will see anything special from him.

This is the kind of guy that KW would go for right about now.

Apparently Mets manager was unaware his player had been traded.  Was pretty pissed afterwards.

White Sox get Sellers from Bucs

Minor League infielder played 17 games in bigs with Indians last season

by AJ Cassavell / MLB.com | July 30th, 2015

The White Sox have added Triple-A shortstop Justin Sellers in a trade with the Pirates for a player to be named or cash considerations.

After missing the first three months of the season with an Achilles injury, Sellers hit .288/.339/.308 in 52 at-bats in the Pirates' Minor League system. He has spent time at second and third base this season, to go along with shortstop.

Sellers has yet to play in the Majors this year after he went 3-for-16 in 17 games for the Indians last season. A sixth-round pick of the A's in 2005, Sellers spent his first three seasons with the Dodgers, with whom he batted .198/.280/.294 with three home runs.

"With Leury Garcia in the big leagues and Micah Johnson unavailable, we needed a player with Major League experience to provide some depth at [Triple-A] Charlotte," said White Sox assistant general manager Buddy Bell of the Sellers trade.

Micah Johnson was placed on the disabled list by Charlotte with a left hamstring strain.

He needs some more tats.  Looks like he has some open skin on his face; maybe he could do a Mike Tyson eye thing there.  Or go all out and do a Darth Maul:

A couple quick thoughts on our inaction at the trade deadline:

1. I would have preferred we had gone hard after Upton instead of Cespedes. Upton is a better player and Tiggers weren't going to move him in division if they had a similar offer elsewhere.

2. Keeping Sam makes sense. Too much better pitching on market. We will get a comp pick for him if/when we do not re-sign and his production this year should not be difficult to replace at lesser cost.

3. Why not make a play for Beachy on the waiver wire? The guy has talent and it is not like we are stocked with guns at AAA. At worst, throw him in the bullpen and let him work the kinks out there.
