He turned into a pitcher 2 years ago, this is his 3rd year hurling. Not a bad thing to take a chance on.

The MLB Rule 4 Draft starts tomorrow @ 6PM (Chicago Time). Live coverage will be available on both the MLB Network and MLB.com. The White Sox have the 8th pick in the 1st round.  Initially, the White Sox had interest in HS outfielder Daz Cameron who is the son of former White Sox Mike Cameron.  However with Boras as his 'advisor' and a reported demand of $5 million to forgo college, it's unlikely the White Sox would pick him.Their #8 slot value is $3.47 million and their overall signing pool value is just $5.347 million as the forfeited their second & third round picks when they signed free agents David Robertson & Melky Cabrera.

The mock drafts are all over the board but the consensus is the White Sox are will go with a college pitcher.  The players rumored to be considered by the White Sox are John Jay of Illinois, Carson Fulmer of Vanderbilt, Dillon Tate of UCSB, Jon Harris of Missouri State and Kyle Funkhouser of Louisville.  John Jay is a lefty and the other four are RHP. Who the White Sox choose will depend on who is still on the board when they pick.

Here are a couple of handy links for the draft:

No, the big draft-eligible RHPs from Vanderbilt (Walker Buehler & Tyler Ferguson) are still on the board.  The White Sox drafted the short guy. Carson Fulmer is only 6'0".   ;D

The Diamondbacks also dealt righty Tim Crabbe to the White Sox for cash or a player to be named later,
the club announced (via MLB.com’s Steve Gilbert, on Twitter). Crabbe, 27, has spent all of the past three years in the upper minors
and has recently converted to relief pitching exclusively.
He owns a 5.50 ERA over 34 1/3 innings this year at Triple-A, with 8.7 K/9 but a rough 6.0 BB/9.

EJ was supposed to start at AAA today, but he's been moved to Tuesday,     The same day Samard-Jah is scheduled to start.

PAdres are shopping shields and might be willing to pick up some of his salary... that might be worth looking into.

Shields has over 2000 MLB innings pitched on that arm and he will turn 34 later this year so unless the Padres are willing to pick up half of his salary and take a couple of fringe prospects in return, I'm not interested. Even though he's Aaron Rowand's first cousin.

Especially at these $$$$ numbers:

Quote

James Shields rhp
4 years/$75M (2015-18), plus 2019 option

    4 years/$75M (2015-18), plus 2019 club option
signed by San Diego as a free agent 2/11/15
        15:$10M, 16:$21M, 17:$21M, 18:$21M, 19:$16M club option ($2M buyout)
        perks: hotel suite on road
deal does not include no-trade clause, but Shields may opt out of contract after 2016 season (no later than 3 days after World Series)

Rumor is they are willing to eat half his sarlary... and at those prices he's a great replacement for when Sam walks.

Going to cost too much in prospects. Rather trade Samard then sign him

I think AJ peller is going to be scrambling to save his job... shields might be cheaper in prospects that we expect...

Apparently the Pirates had asked the Sox about LaRoche for some reason.

Getting their 2016 MLB Draft Competitive Balance pick (Round A - 6th pick which should be overall pick #40-42 with a slot value of about $1.5 million)  in return for the 'Duck Dynasty wannabe' along with jettisoning him & the rest of his contract would be even better.

When did SoxNet become "WSI - The Sequel"?   They used to be good for rumors during Trade Week, now it's all arguing about trading Quintana for Puig.     I am now dumber for spending 4 minutes there.

Sox supposedly waiting until after this Boston series to decide if they're going to be buyers or sellers.

Personally, if some team is willing to pay for a reliever like Albers or Duke, you sell on them, then turn around and try to buy a hitter.
