good read but I think Abreu, Gillaspie and Garcia beat those projections.  And Martinez and Cabrera are very prone in injury.  I think the offenses will be very comparable with our pitching leading to the division crown.

What about dealing Rodon and a mixed bag for Cole Hamels.

Hamels is a guy we hope Rodon will become, but he's a sure thing and a good contract for 5 years.

We get to avoid dealing with Boras too.

Rodon, and any other rule 4 draft pick, can't be traded until one full year AFTER the date of their signing their first contract.  So that's the middle of July 2015 at the earliest.

Why thank you.
Now the house hunting and all of that starts. Luckily she wants a small wedding (if one at all). I suggested a destination wedding, and she responded with "does the courthouse count as a destination?"

Yeah, I'm not sure why we'd trade Rodon.

As a side note, we just signed this guy to a minor league deal (with ST invitation):

He throws with his left arm. So there's that.

Red Sox signed Nestor Molina to a minor league deal. So the Santos trade is officially a bust for everyone involved.

he makes over $20MM per year.  Yikes!  Gotta stay away from that.

We have signed Brad Penny to a minor league deal for some reason:

WTFN?     Might as well sign a bunch of "lottery tickets" to minor league deals, and see if you can get lucky in spring training.

True.

It's not like we've got a glut of prospect arms in AAA.

Hey now, don't be busting on our AAA arms, gotta defend my kids. Tommy Hanson bombed for us in AAA last year, may as well be Penny this season.

I said "glut."

If signing a guy like Penny were holding a prospect back, I'd say hell no.

He would fill out the Charlotte rotation nicely at least.

This was reported when we traded Beckham

White Sox general manager Rick Hahn would not identify the potential player to be named later the White Sox would receive from the Angels, only to say that a handful of candidates have been agreed upon by the two teams. The White Sox and Angels are expected to finalize the deal in the offseason

Did the player ever get named?

August 21, 2014: Traded by the Chicago White Sox to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim for player to be named or cash.

Guessing we took the cash.

...or the trade has yet to be completed.  The Cubs just completed their Samardzija trade with Oakland last week.  A possible reason why the compensation for the Beckham trade hasn't been finalized is the amount of compensation might be dependent on if Beckham is an Angel in 2015.  While the Angels non-tendered Beckham he still can re-sign with them. If that's the case, don't expect any compensation until Beckham signs a contract with a team.

Apparently the Sox have kicked the tires on Stephen Drew to play 2B... but he's a Boras client and asking for $9M~10M.

Would give us flexibility to trade Alexei potentially... though I'm opposed to that idea.

I want to see Johnson get a full year in Charlotte.

No need to rush him... no need for Beckham 2.0.

If you could get Drew at 1/5 with performance kickers, I'm interested. That way if he continues to struggle you're getting him at journeyman utility rate.
Otherwise....pass.
