Not sure, maybe there are not any. I would take Melky, would have taken Markakis but not for what he got. Cripes, 50 RBI and he played all year??

Markakus batted second, and with the O's power lineup last year he probably didn't have many opportunities as by time he got up the runs had been driven in. The O's led baseball with over 200 HR's.. In any event he would have been much cheaper than Melkey will command, probably 15 mil. I'd now rather see the remaining money go towards relief pitching and a starter. We'll have to live with Viciedo in lf one more year, in a platoon role, or give up the farm in a trade.

There are some non-tenders going on of late, maybe a decent OF will come available.

Well, one alternative is gone. Mariners send Saunders to Blue Jays for JA Happ.

Good trade for both teams, IMO:

John Danks for Andre Ethier....discuss.

Salaries are fairly equivalent.
Ethier has one more year on contract than Danks, but he's also been a pretty consistent .270/.360 hitter good for about 3.0 WAR when playing regularly.

Danks is younger, but outside a 3-yr stretch from 08-10, has been a below-average pitcher.

Would free up a rotation spot for Rodon, allow us to trade Viciedo.

Would LA do it? I imagine they would. They are stocked with OF and Danks' deal has one less year on it.

I think they would still be interested because they always like having deep depth at starting pitching, and they could also use him in long relief. Plus they get rid of Ethier.

Rodon is in the rotation whether or not Danks is. He takes Carroll's spot or whomever's spot you want to call it. We move Danks we need to get another starter. I want Bassitt in the pen.

So do, and could, the White Sox.   Plus they don't get Ethier.

I think Ethier could have a bounce back in the Cell.

Flip of a coin on Ethier. I could see him doing real well, but I could see him being a bust too, and a bad influence on young guys. Not a big fan of his obviously.

From MLBTR: The White Sox look like the favorites to acquire Jeff Samardzija from the Athletics, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale reports (Twitter link).  The two sides were known to have recently discussed a deal involving the right-hander.

Has KW written all over it, if they trade top prospects.

The Sox aren't trading top prospects for 1 yr of  Samardzija (unless maybe if the trade comes with an extension already in place). But Hahn is not stupid and this is Hahn's team, not KW's. Kenny may have some input but he's not the one leading trades anymore. I'm sure Hahn wants his own fingerprints on the team he's trying to put together.

I sure hope you are right.  Maybe we trade an Eric Johnson and Semien.  But to include Anderson would be pure idiocy.

I thought we were allin for this year... we need to hang onto our starting pitching etc etc.

KW needs to take that Jays job ASAP.

OK, guess we are. Sounds like we are in on Robertson too. I love his numbers, but he has pitched in over 60 games quite a few years in a row now. Give up any minor leaguers other than Montas, Rodon and Anderson.

I saw it on SoxTalk, but there were some tweets from someone behind the discussion.

White Sox Interested In David Robertson
By Mark Polishuk [December 8, 2014 at 3:30am CST]
The White Sox are the latest team to express interest in closer David Robertson, George A. King III of the New York Post reports.  “They like him a lot and he is definitely on their radar,’’ a source tells King. “They have several things they want to do and he is one of them.”

Robertson is looking for a contract in the four-year, $50MM range and the Sox are reportedly “aren’t blanching” over the idea of giving the closer that big a guarantee, King writes.  Chicago’s first round pick (eighth overall) is protected, so they’d only have to give up their second-rounder as compensation to sign Robertson, who rejected the Yankees’ qualifying offer.  Robertson would provide a major boost to a White Sox bullpen that posted a cumulative 4.38 ERA in 2014, the third-highest mark in baseball.

The Astros, Blue Jays and Yankees are three of at least a half-dozen clubs who have shown interest in Robertson, though King cites reasons why all three could bow out of the race.  The Jays may not be willing to meet Robertson’s asking price, the Astros “don’t believe Robertson wants to pitch for them” and the Yankees would prefer to give their former stopper a deal closer to the $40MM threshold.  New York had also been hesitant to give Robertson more than three guaranteed years, though the team “may be softening” in that respect.

I think it started with MLBtraderumors.com... above is the latest they have on robertson

One thing to keep in mind if we trade for Samardzija; the minimum would not only one year of his service, but also a high draft pick if he leaves the following year.

If robertson wants to take a 3 year deal.. i am ok with them giving him more $$$...

but 4 years is asking for trouble.

Unless a team that is in the bottom 15 signs him... then we get a 2nd rounder that isnt all that awesome...

I think if Sam wants to resign with us... make it happen... i'm all for adding a TOR arm even while rebuilding the roster.
