For all his hype, Pederson is an OF prospect. OFs are a dime a dozen. Alexei was one of the most productive players in the league at a premium position.

I like Pederson, but I would not trade Alexei straight up for him, and certainly would not trade for Kemp.
To get Alexei, I'd need Pederson and at least one of LA's surplus pitchers. Given our need for bullpen help, I'd take Yimi Garcia.

Alexei could be even more valuable at the 2015 trade deadline

And he could have a terrible first half making his trade value next to nothing.....or get injured. There's always risk involved.

But I do agree that the Sox hold all the leverage in this case and should not give him up unless someone pays up big.

Yeah, he does have that bad habit of starting really slow, except for this past year.

Oh, for sure ISF, it would take Pederson and pitching to get the best SS in the AL. I agree to stay away from Kemp and I also suggest staying away from Ethier and Crawford. I may take a SP, as I think Hahn is going to get 2-3 relievers off the FA market.

One possible ending of the Dayan Viciedo era.

Melky can play nice D as well. He would be ideal.

Olney also hears that the White Sox‘ asking price on Alexei Ramirez is “steep to the degree that you’d want to be buying in for two to three years.”
Ramirez is guaranteed $10MM next season and has a $10MM club option for the 2016 season with a $1MM buyout.

The White Sox have signed first baseman Adam LaRoche to a two-year, $25 million deal, according to the USA Today. CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman has confirmed the move.

I like the deal a lot. I've watched LaRoche the last four years as a Nat. The best things about him are that he hits in clutch situations and his defense is slick (despite what the sabers say). he'll help save Abreu's legs.

Now if we can also get Gregorson, and another reliever, plus trade ARam for value, I'll be happy.

I'm all for trading Alexie for the most value we can get because we will never have more leverage than now. First I think 2016 is our first year of contention not 2015, second, we'd be selling Alexie high, he's likely not getting another silver slugger next year, and  third, there so many teams that desperately need a shortstop this year Dodgers, Yankees, Mets, etc.

I agree with what you say Juan.

I really would like to keep Alexei, but if we get the right deal we need to do it. We would likely suck at SS for a while, unless we got a decent one back. Semien, Saladino, Garcia and Sanchez can all play it, just not sure at at a Major League level.

the White Sox inked left-handed reliever Joe Savery

2 other Minor League FAs besides Savery signed. SS Juan Diaz from the Marlins and RHP Logan Kensing from the Mariners. Savery was with the A's.

Buster Olney more than once recently has referred to the AL Central as no longer being a weak division:

Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN  ·  Nov 21
AL Central just gets better and better: Royals AL champs, Tigers, Indians pitching, and now more White Sox improvement. A power division.

Buster Olney @Buster_ESPN  ·  Nov 22
A once-weak division is gaining strength.

I'm still in the "sign Kevin Kouzmanoff and platoon him with Gillaspie" camp.

tough call.  Melky's been the better hitter over the last three seasons and he's a year younger than Markakis.  Markakis is the better defensive outfielder and he's not been caught up in any PED scandals.  Melky's a switch hitter, Markakis is a lefty.  Melky was given a qualifying offer so signing him would cost the White Sox their 2nd rounder.  The Orioles didn't offer Markakis the qualifying offer so his signing doesn't cost anyone a draft choice. Signing Markakis would make Juan pizzaro happy.  I'd like which ever one ends up cheaper in $$ and length of contract.  If they both cost the same in $$ & length of contract, I'd rather have Markakis since he's better defensively and the White Sox would lose their 2nd round pick this coming June.

I say neither... i think yous are all drinking a lot of Koolaid... this team is a lot further from contention then most think...

Simmer down.. stop trying to reach for lighthing in a bottle... give up assets like Q for real building blocks and target 2016 to start our new window to compete... stop trying to short change the rebuild to compete now... its a fools errand.

I'd like to see us try and sign Kyle Blanks and Alexi Ogando to minor league deals.

Ogando has been effective when healthy and his FIP was under 4 despite his bloated ERA last year.

Blanks shows good contact rates and pretty equal splits between RH and LH. At worst he'd be a nice replacement for De Aza's spot as 4th OF.
Might be a good replacement for Viciedo should we dump him on someone else. Both would be cheap upgrades at positions of need.

I recall Melky being a decent LF for the Giants. I like his bat way more than Markakis. I think we can do better than either honestly.

Like who msf? DeAza? There are no other decent FA outfielders left after Melky, and Markakus was had for only 4 years and $11 mill per.  Any other decent outfielder we can get in a trade that's better than Melky will cost us dearly in both dollars and players we give up.
