I suppose. I would like to keep him if his influence has anything to do with Abreu (doubtful since it has not worked these past few years with Viciedo).

Yes as well. Better OBP, better D, LH bat. Viciedo hit some big homers off Seattle last year, they gotta like him.

Only interested in talking about trading Viciedo if they sign Victor Martinez first.   The White Sox have very little power other than Abreu & Viciedo.  In fact, no one else on the roster is a significant HR threat other than those two.  Flowers career high is 15 HRs and that was in 2014.  Who knows what a healthy Avisail Garcia will do as his career high is 7 HRs. Alexei's career high is 21 but that was in 2008.   IMO, in the American League, unless you're a speed and defense team like the Royals, you need 3 or 4 players who are pretty much assured of hitting 20+ HRs in your every day lineup to win. Or two or three every day hitters who hit 25+ HRs.

If you trade Viciedo and don't sign VMart, Abreu will never see a strike in the late innings with a runner on base and the White Sox trailing by two runs.  Viciedo isn't very good but at least he makes the other team think twice before walking Abreu and letting the potential winning run bat with men on base.

Good points. But keep him off the field.

I do think Avisail will hit at least 25 in a full season, my gut thinking is even a greater number. I think he is pretty good, and seems to get clutch RBIs. I would think he, as well as a FA LH hitting OF (or even a Saunders) could suffice behind Abreu.  Only thing that keeps me even considering Viciedo is that he is relatively young and our staff is so insistent that he is too good of a hitter to offload.

We don't need him. Sign a platoon partner for Conor. Kevin Kouzmanoff is still my favorite for that role.

Evan Gattis is officially being shopped by Atlanta:

I just don't like Conor's defense and because of that I see him as a utility guy, platoon at 3rd, play some first, and pinch hit.

We have to improve e defense significantly if we want to contend.

And another topic, if our payroll as presently $43 million, and I'm hearing we only have $40 million to spend, that brings use almost 25% below our payroll in 2006. With the new national TV contracts, JR's got to be bringing in more revenues than in 2006,even with the reduced attendance. I wish we had a less cheapo owner.

White Sox GM Rick Hahn expects his team to mentioned in a flood of trade rumors this offseason, though he doesn’t mind since this winter, some of them will be true.  “We aren’t going to be precluded from any single player because of running up against the limits of our payroll.  And in terms of the rumors, we’ve always operated under the standpoint that we’re going to be involved in any premium player that’s available, whether it’s via free agency or via trade,” Hahn told reporters.

I know the Sox need to fix their woeful bullpen but I really want to see them sign a big bat. The offense still needs work too and we could use more power. Hahn has a lot of work to do.

Would SD take that pile of crap for this promising prospect? I highly doubt it.

Prospect?  He's twenty-seven and will turn 28 next April.  That's not a "promising prospect" but, at best, a "late bloomer".

ISF didn't ask what would it take to get him.  Just what I'd trade for him.  Heck, I'd give them both Danks brothers for a dozen used baseballs if they'd pick-up the $28.5 million left on John's contract.

OK, prospect was a poor choice of words.

I however, am yet a bit of a John Danks fan, and I am hoping that one more year removed from surgery he gets a few more MPH on his stuff. I know he will not be worth what he makes, but as a 4th or 5th starter he is worthwhile. He can get on streaks and eat innings.

Big fan of giving russell martin 4/75 right now and taking him off the market as well.

Then lets go get Hamels contract and see how things go!

Almost 20M per season for Russell Martin. Nobody is that good on defense.

We're going to have a lot of young pitchers coming up... and having him around would be a real asset... plus C is black hole for this team right now.
