Good post Shoe. I agree with trading Beckham, he is not going to ever be what we hoped.

If we don't have any intention of keeping Nieto the Rule 5 draft pick, when we had the third pick, why the hell did we pick him instead of some hard thrower for the bullpen?

Cripes Juan, like a rule V pick is going to make a big diff. Nieto was worth taking a look at, if we like him we give up a minor leaguer for him and send him to the minors. He is not going to make the team.

If Nieto looks good, we don't have anyone that is going to keep him off the roster.
I would assume Phegley has options left.

Disagree on Beckham. He was showing flashes last year. He just has to stay healthy.
If anyone is going in a trade, it ought to be Alexei. Semien can play SS.

I would be OK with that though I think Lexi has a nice bounce back year.

It's still relatively early on in Spring Training, but the White Sox have already begun getting calls on outfielders Alejandro De Aza and Dayan Viciedo, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports (on Twitter). The two are battling for the everyday job in left field, as it 2013 trade acquisitions Adam Eaton and Avisail Garcia are likely to man center field and right field, respectively.

De Aza is the more established player of the two but also comes with less team control. Set to turn 30 in early April, De Aza has batted .279/.343/.420 in 357 games with the White Sox since being claimed off waivers from the Marlins in 2009. The lefty swinger belted a career-high 17 homers last season and has stolen 46 bases over the past two seasons. Ultimate Zone Rating pegs him as an average defender in the outfield, though Defensive Runs Saved feels he's somewhat below average. He has extensive experience in center field and also played 426 innings in left field for the Sox last season. De Aza is under team control for two more seasons and will earn $4.25MM in 2014.

Viciedo is the younger and more powerful of the two, but comes with question marks about his defense and on-base skills. Viciedo, who turns 25 on Monday, mashed 25 homers in his first full season with the Sox in 2012, posting a .255/.300/.444 triple-slash line. However, he wasn't able to match that power level in 2013, as he hit just 14 homers with a .265/.304/.426 slash line. UZR/150 pegs him at -5.5 over his career in left field, while DRS has him at -3. Both metrics agree that his glove worsened in 2013. As a Super Two player, he'll earn $2.8MM in 2014 and is controllable through the 2017 season.

Me too, and I'd like to see a Danks/Viciedo platoon in left, but I read where Robin does not much like platoons, he's sort of the anti-Joe Maddon.

Agree with Method. De Aza gives us more flexibility defensively, he's a better baserunner and  gets on base more.

Defensive outfield of De Aza/Eaton/Garcia sounds half decent.

I think we might as well get SOME value out of Viciedo while we can.

I didn't even realize he was back...but he's gone again:

The Braves were looking for a batting practice pitcher and decided to trade for Stewart to fill the position.

•The Diamondbacks have acquired lefty Spencer Arroyo from the White Sox for cash, according to the MLB transactions page. The 25-year-old spent most of his time as a starter in Double-A last year, putting up a 3.50 ERA in 149 1/3 innings while posting 5.8 K/9 against 2.7 BB/9.

Nationals are hurting with 3B Zimmerman out for 2 months. Rendon is moving the #B now, and they have a hole at 2B. Espinosa k's hits like Dunn without the HR's.

Beckham for a reliever?

Have the White Sox made a trade with the Nationals since July of 2010?

The reason I  ask is that, from what I heard, Kenny & Hahn were really upset with Mike Rizzo. The White Sox went through with acquiring Jackson from Arizona for Daniel Hudson & David Holmberg only because they expected to immediately send him to Washington for Adam Dunn. After the CWS acquired Jackson, Rizzo reneged on the trade. I don't know if he changed his mind completely or asked for a better deal since the CWS had already made the trade with Arizona.  Obviously, the White Sox did end up with Dunn later in the off-season but as a free-agent and that cost the White Sox their 2011 1st round pick.

AFAIK, Kenny & Hahn vowed not to deal with Rizzo again unless any future deal with Rizzo was lopsided to the White Sox benefit. So, if bad feelings still linger, I suspect Rizzo would have to offer a killer deal to get Beckham or anyone else from the White Sox.

You know that Rizzo was with the White Sox and at least partially responsible for the Frank Thomas signing. Did the bad blood start then when Rizzo left?
