Not a plus defender, they hope he can become one. Powerful, but Ks a lot despite nice OBP. Has uppercut in his swing, will never be a high average hitter.

Meh. Should have gotten more off what Reed has done. I like the idea of developing pitching and trading for hitters, lets hope Davidson becomes an everyday player at 3B.

The #WhiteSox have improved more than anyone in #MLB the last 6 months with acquistions of 1B Abreu, RF Garcia, CF Eaton and 3B Davidson.

Given our record, there was really nowhere to go but up.

That said, I am impressed with Hahn's overall efforts. Still not sure I like the Santiago/Eaton deal, but hoping it will prove to be a good one.
Garcia was impressive in half a season. Abreu and Davidson fill needs at the corners.  With Reed gone, Belisario signing makes alot of sense now.

Would still like a C not named Flowers. Baltimore seems willing to trade Mr. Wieters...
With both Santiago and Thornton shipped out, who is our LH setup? Veal? Purcey? A minor league guy (Sean Bierman)? FA?

Dont like the high K and bad walk rates for Davidson/Garcia... but better younger hitters we had.

We can rebuild the bullpen, the sox are good at that...

Guessing Nate Jones closes now?

I like Jones setting up, maybe Lindstrom? He has closed before at Houston. Belisario could be an option. Daniel Webb will be the darkhorse candidate.

Agree with ISF, no Flowers on the roster, please. On LH setup, right now Purcey, Veal and Leesman are what we have. We need to beef that up.

According to local media and dooshbag Joe Sheehan, this is simply far from the truth.

With the Rays asking for the moon for David Price, and cubs asking for a ton for Sam... hope we can still find a taker for JD.

The White Sox are in agreement on a one-year, $4MM contract (pending a physical) with free agent left-hander Scott Downs, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter links). Downs' deal contains a vesting option that could bring the deal to two years and roughly $8MM, he adds. According to Rosenthal, the option will vest if Downs pitches a normal workload.

The 37-year-old Downs posted a 2.49 ERA with 7.7 K/9, 3.9 BB/9 and a 64.3 percent ground-ball rate in 43 1/3 innings between the Angels and Braves in 2013. This past season represented the final year of a three-year, $15MM pact between the Angels and Downs. The Halos traded him to Atlanta in July in exchange for right-hander Cory Rasmus.

Though Downs was typically strong against both right- and left-handed hitters into his mid-30s, he's developed a notable platoon split over the past two seasons. From 2012-13, right-handed batters have hit Downs at a .285/.371/.416 clip.

12:37pm: Downs' deal is worth $3.75MM with a $250K buyout on year two, making it $4MM guaranteed, tweets Bruce Levine of 670thescore.com.  The vesting option for 2015 is worth $4.25MM.

1 team that really seems to have a plan is the #chisox. had obvious needs: hitting, athleticism, youth, and addressing them

The national media has been praising the Sox for pretty much of all their deals so far. It's kind of nice getting some positive recognition for once.

•From the outside, the Giants' move to designate Surkamp for assignment didn't make sense, Grant Brisbee of SB Nation writes. Brisbee suggests that the Giants "probably let the next Carlos Villanueva go," reffering to the Giants' 2004 decision to send Villanueva to the Brewers in a minor trade for Wayne Franklin and Leo Estrella.

I read some logs of their fans, not happy at all over losing this kid. He seems recovered from his elbow problems.

Heh.

Happy with the off-season so far.   The Sox are getting better.
