Lets compare the Garza deal to the Peavy deal...

I'd say that Hahn flinched way to soon.

Both starters have had injury issues... Peavy is the better pitcher... and under contract for a additional year where he isnt making an obscene amt.

Why was our return that much lower?

The way this org handles pitchers, I say we draft damn near all pitchers every year, we can trade young ones for proven hitters or sign hitters via FA, but not pitchers, we develop a shitload of them. That would be part of my plan.

I'll admit i dont know much at all about the two young pitchers we got back...

Cubs got CJ Edwards and it seems PTBNL might be Neil Ramirez... i hope Hahn doesnt have KW's propensity for trading vets away at a discount.

The posturing is underway; who will blink first?

FRIDAY: A source involved in the trade talks between the two sides told Jim Bowden of ESPN and MLB Network Radio that the chances of a deal are "smaller than a bread basket."

THURSDAY, 4:51pm: A trade is unlikely to be reached, writes MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan. Prior to the deadline, the White Sox were interested in lefty Martin Perez, right-hander Luke Jackson and infielder Rougned Odor, and the Rangers aren't keen on giving up those players in a trade for Rios.

Rougned Odor

Gotta get this guy.  He'll fit in nicely with Cleuluis Rondon.

Rougned Odor

BlackSox was excellent in that band. GWAR cover band if I recall.

Rougned Odor

How the hell do you pronounce that first name. Looks like Rough Neck almost. Cripes, Harry would have **** a cow.

I'm assuming you're saying Harry would have a Spotted Cow. And it wouldn't be a bad choice...although I'd predict he'd have more than one.

I think he'd stick with Bud though...

Rios has been traded to the Rangers. Dan Hayes at first reported that the Sox received Leury Garcia in the trade, now says:

Cancel that on Leury Garcia. Was told will be a player to be named or cash. #WhiteSox #rangers

Either way, HE GONE.

Jon Heyman confirms that it's a PTBNL, and adds that the White Sox are sending $1MM to the Rangers in the deal.

Rangers giving up Garcia for Rios

The player is expected to go to the White Sox is infielder Leury Garcia. The deal came together about ten minutes before the Rangers claim on Rios was to expire after it seemed like nothing would happen.

plus the White Sox gave up absolutely nothing when they claimed Rios on waivers 4 years ago.

Would have liked to get LHH 3B Joey Gallo (former HS teammate of Hunnie's sons at Bishop Gorman HS)  for him but any halfway decent prospect is fine for all the salary relief the Sox get in the deal.

Lifted from a SoxTalk post:

MLB.com's T.R. Sullivan reports that the Rangers will send Leury Garcia to the White Sox in the Alex Rios deal.
They're announcing it as a player to be named later now only so Garcia doesn't have to pass through waivers. Garcia has some speed and should have a future as a utility player, but he's only a career .261/.310/.347 hitter in the minors, so the Rangers didn't give up much. Aug 9 - 2:33 PM

More from S-T:

Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN
Here's rundown on Leury Garcia: 22, plays 2B, SS, 3B; has 80 speed and a 70 arm; glove can handle SS; has 155 SBs in 6 minor league seasons.

Leury Garcia (SS)
Age PA H 2B HR BB SO SB AVG OBP SLG wOBA
21 416 110 12 2 22 79 31 .292 .337 .398 .329

Yet another up-the-middle talent, Garcia’s ceiling is a little below that of his fellow prospects found higher on this list. With that said, a strong showing from 2012 could help him make a legitimate push for a 25-man roster spot in 2013. Although he’s too aggressive for his own good — just 22 walks in 100 games — and has below-average power potential, Garcia hit .292 at Double-A in 2012 as a 21-year-old.

He then got the rare opportunity as a prospect to play regularly in the veteran-laden Dominican Winter League and showed the ability to handle both shortstop and center field. A contact I spoke with said Garcia could potential give big league manager Ron Washington a lot of options. “He’s taken a big jump in winter ball….,” the source told me. “There aren’t a lot of guys that can play both shortstop and center field. He had a tremendous offseason.”

With Elvis Andrus and Jurickson Profar ahead of him, Garcia has moved around the field a bit and can also play second base and third base. The contact I spoke with called him a legitimate shortstop who has the ability to play regularly with plus speed at the big league level. The feeling is he’s underrated because the organization has been aggressive with his development. “He’s always played a level above where, perhaps, he should have.” If Garcia doesn’t break camp with the Rangers, he should head to Triple-A where he’ll continue to polish his defensive repertoire while also learning to become more patient at the plate.

This is from Fangraphs from Feb 2013 Rated #15 Rangers prospect at that time. Olt was #2 Leonys Martin #4 . The guy I was hoping for ,Sardinas ,was #5 .http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/texas-rangers-top-15-prospects-2012-13/

Okay, so despite the weak bat and low walks, maybe is worth a million to take a chance on.

Just say no to Joey Gallo, cripes Andy, the guy will K 250 times a year by time he gets to majors, which he likely will not.

This Garcia, the SS, might not be so bad. Sounds like a good arm and lots of speed. Something to work with anyway.

Have we acquired Jerry yet?

He hits about as well...
