I like the return. Give up Peavy, get 4 prospects (including Avisail Garcia, #74 on BA's preseason top 100).
Garcia (RF, 22, AAA):
http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=garcia001aviLots of hitting potential. All-star-upside (per BA), with average defense in RF (again, per BA). I don't like his low walk rate, but his power is great. They call him "Mini-Miggy" in Detroit for his resemblance to Miguel Cabrera.
Jeffrey Wendelken (RP, 22, A):
http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=wendel000jefDrafted last year in the 13th round, so he's basically had the equivalent of 1 full season. Numbers so far look decent. 82 K's in 86 1/3 innings across two half seasons in Rookie / A ball. Future bullpen arm, it looks like.
Francellis Montas (SP, 20, A):
http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=montas001fraNumbers make him look like a power arm (96 K's in 85 1/3 innings as a starter in A ball). ERA looks pretty putrid this year. Looks like a "project" arm.
Cleuluis Rondon (SS, 19, Low A):
http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=rondon000cle&utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-www.typepad.comOK numbers. Zero power so far, but he's 19 years old at 6'0" / 155. Looks like another "let's just see how this kid grows" kid.
Garcia is ML-ready (could step in if/when Rios is traded), and the other 3 are young, low-minors guys. Seems our system has had a lot of success lately developing arms, so I've got hope for Montas and Wendelken. No idea about Rondon.
My only knock on Garcia is his walk rate, but I like his numbers otherwise, and I liked what I saw of him last fall when he played with the Tigers.
