White Sox seek pitcher replacements in case of trade

On Monday, the White Sox were one of several teams reported to have interest in free agent Brandon McCarthy. But Hahn has stayed away from names this offseason and will only divulge the club has spoken with a number of agents.

FanGraph's spin on the Kepp signing:

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/white-sox-sign-jeff-keppinger-human-ball-return/

Right now, the third-base market sucks. The White Sox got themselves a half-decent third baseman who is extremely, unusually good at one thing (making contact). It’s fine. The White Sox signing Jeff Keppinger is fine. He’ll be fine, probably.

Keppinger would appear to be a rich man's Mark Teahen, at best.

He makes better contact, Ks less. At least, so far...

White Sox aren't done: They will add another infielder and a veteran catcher if Pierzynski goes elsewhere

You mean at least until he puts on a White Sox uniform, right?

Heh.

Having taken care of the hot corner, the Sox have now moved on and are eyeing the trade market in hopes of making a splash, tweets Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com.

#yankees bid higher $12M on 3 yrs for keppinger. Either slick negotiating by new chisox gm rick hahn or chicago preference

Kep probably wanted the chance to flail on a much, much smaller stage methinks.

Might be the better chance to play every day, as opposed to getting benched when ARod comes back.

MLB guys made a comment about Sox going after an upper tier pitcher and then trading Floyd. They mentioned 2 names, one was Annibel Sanchez and the other was Kyle Lohse.

Those two sentences don't seem related.

yeah, those two are not what I would call upper tier either, if that is what you are getting at.

I wouldn't mind adding him either, but not at his asking price (I've heard 6 years / $90M)

So we don't have to bring up Carlos Sanchez and use him as the utility guy.

He appears to be Brent Lillibridge without the desire to impress the chicks with his long-ball swing.
Worth the 25K, IMO.

I think ISF is correct. This is our 2013 utility man, backup SS. Better than Olmedo, probably better hitter than the kid we sent to Minny.  He has fared will in AAA and has been ok with Stros.

Now Twins have sent Ben Revere packing to Philly for SP Vance Worley.

It appears the Aaron Hicks era has arrived in Minnesota...

They are going to be disappointed if they are counting on Hicks, IMHO.

Revere could end up being really good, he loves the game and he is so athletic. Not sure on this one, I could see moving Span, but not Revere.

•The third base market is still crazy enough that Hannahan asked teams for a multiyear deal, tweets Danny Knobler of CBS Sports.
He says the Marlins are interested in Hannahan and have also asked the White Sox about Brent Morel.
