Good trade, did not give up too much, I like Escobar, but to get a guy like Liriano. If nothing else, he can be a setup man in the pen with Thornton, but I am sure he will start. He has talent. Now do we trade Floyd or Humber? Shut down Sale?

I heard the name of James Shields mentioned as also available. He has had a rough year too

This is a total reclamation project, Twins don't let this loose until they know it's "icky"- get on it Coop! Even if it's for one season.

Gavin Floyd for Yunel Escobar and a prospect?

We have recent history with Toronto and an immediate need for MI help.

I think I like the idea of keeping 6 starting pitchers, and just bring up Ray Olmedo from AAA. He almost beat out Escobar in ST for the backup job, started real slow after being sent down, but has been having a better and better year as it goes along. He has major league experience and can handle the backup job.

you ask, they deliver..

White Sox purchase contract of Rey Olmedo

from Class AAA Charlotte

ARLINGTON, Texas – Prior to tonight’s game at Texas, the Chicago White Sox purchased the contract of infielder Rey Olmedo from Class AAA Charlotte.

Olmedo, 31, was batting .273 (75-275) with no home runs and 19 RBI in 80 games with Charlotte this season.  The switch-hitter appeared in 41 games at shortstop, 19 at third base, 17 at second and two in the outfield.

A native of Maracay, Venezuela, Olmedo is a career .228 (92-403) hitter with two home runs and 26 RBI in 198 major-league games with Cincinnati (2003-06) and Toronto (2007).

Olmedo will wear uniform No. 66.

The White Sox 40-man roster is at 40.

hmm. Now I'm curious as to what Jheter wrote.

Before I scrolled down to see the answer, I was sure that the censored word was ****.

Buehrle Fd up?  How?  Both Reinsdorf and KW are on record as saying that they weren't going to pony up for what he could get on the open market and that he should take his best offer.  Essentially a statement of "we're not going to resign you."

If anything, KW Fd up by tying up any $ they could throw at Buehrle in contacts for Dunn, Rios, and Danks.

He could have stayed, but he priced himself out of town. He seemed to "want" to leave in my opinion.

Given what Dunn and Rios have done this year, having Buehrle here instead of them, not so hot.

Liriano's first start is Tuesday. Against the Twins. In MN. That should be interesting. Based on conversation with Twins' reporter I just heard on pre-game, he can be a bit mentally fragile (a la Floyd) , especially with runners on base.

This was the first time Twins and Sox have made a deal since 1986!

Booooo... I disagree. Dunn i can agree with... but has rios earned his 96 million he'll get from us... not even close.

I was only talking about this year's team, not the entire contract. You would rather have Burly here this year, and no Dunn or Rios here this year? That's nuts!

No issues with the Dunn gambit... I would MUCH rather have MB then Rios, esp since they cost the same amt...

I've got to agree with that. While Rios is having a fine year and should be commended for such, its pitching, pitching and more pitching. If Danks were healthy and Floyd was having a good year maybe I could be swayed the other way but letting Buehrle go was a mistake.

Floyd was having a good year?

We as Sox fans are way to enamored with his abilities... hes no more then Humber... just with better stuff...

Doesnt have what it takes between the ears.

Method,

You can't agree with one and not the other, the question was would you rather have in this 2011 season Burly here, and both Dunn and Rios gone (and their stats this year), or have both here, but no Burly this year. That's how the question was originally put.

'Cuz that sh1t happens in a vacuum, you know.

That's how the question was originally put.

I presume this "question" is not being attributed to me, as that was not the gist of my observation.  It was simply that the budget had already been tapped out on Dunn/Rios/Danks (throw Konerko and AJ in there for the same purpose) and the Sox brass decided from a financial standpoint that the going rate for a guy with Buehrle's career creds wasn't going to fit into their budget.

Ok... Then yes going back and not having the the brilliance of hindsight... i'd rather have MB+ 15 million a year of a player(s) on my team then Rios and Dunn.. Its not a fair question, as you are asking would you rather have a 15 million dollar pitcher or 33 million worth of position players...

with that said lets look at in a different view... would you rather have MB and Dunn... or Rios and Dunn... if you look at it that way... its pretty easy to pick at least in my view... i'd rather have the proven pitcher vs the enigmatic RF being paid about what Kemp is being paid for playing CF... now if Rios was a GG CF things would be different.

I'd wager most GM's would rather have MB over Rios if cost were the same...

I was as pissed as anyone that MB left. I know we sorta kicked him out, but damn, he just always seemed to want to leave, unlike Konerko, who seemed to want to stay. I think if MB wanted to stay, he could have.
