Nationals just lost out on Jensen, who is returning to the dodgers. So lets hope robertson has his bags packed and on the ready to move to the DC area.

Turner resigns with the Dodgers, so that removes one suitor for his services.

He didn't quit (resign).  He agreed to re-sign with the Dodgers.

ok mr grammer nazi.

no grammar nazi.  Just a pet peeve when resign/re-sign are incorrectly substituted for each other since they mean the OPPOSITE of each other.

It would be a real bummer if you posted "Kenny Williams resigns with the White Sox" with a link, only to click on it and find they gave him another contract extension.  :'(   :'(

Man, it's been several days and Hahn hasn't made another masterful trade yet. Borrrrrrr-ing.    ;D

Probably need to wait a bit for the FA market to settle before Hahn can get max value for the ancillary pieces (Frazier, Robertson, etc).     No need to rush trading Quintana, either.

It’ll be a one-year deal, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News tweets. It’s a done deal, per MLB.com’s TR Sullivan (via Twitter).

Holland will receive a $6MM guarantee with $2MM in incentives, Grant reports (via Twitter).

Get a good half season out of him and unload him for more prospects.

White Sox sign Derek Holland to 1-year, $6 million deal

Why so much? Hasn't stayed healthy. Even if Hahn unloads  him he isn't going to get much because  its a one year deal.

msf, a few years ago, the Cubs had a one year rental Scott Feldman, who had a decent first half and they then tunred him into Jake Arrieta. If Holland can return close to previous form, we might get some prospect out of it.

Exactly what I want us to do Juan. Just like Theo did, turn crap into kids. Of course, Arrieta discovered steroids too, that did not hurt.

Bill, Holland has not always sucked. This is what we have to do. Pick up scraps and hope some pan out so we can trade them for more kids. We want to be lousy, but we need some guys to have good seasons so we can unload for more. We all wanted a rebuild, we gots to do it right.

Now, where my money and  why my lip all busted up

What looks and smells like manure is manure. This looks like manure to me. Good luck getting a quality prospect out of manure. And since when have the Sox been great talent evaluators? Count me as very skeptical.

OK, so he sucks. We've wasted $6M on him, and we get a better draft pick in return.

The moves Hahn is making are consistent with the direction of the team. The team isn't going anywhere in 2017, so why not take the money originally owed to Sale and Eaton and allocate it to guys like Holland? It's a win-win for Holland - he gets a chance to rebuild his value, and the Sox get a chance to cash in on that higher value.

So I again ask - what's the downside?

Someone has to fill Sale's innings... we need more SP arms. any more recycles left? has Holland the RP signed? another good flip candidate.

Rajai Davis on a 1 year deal is also a great flip candidate.

Yep - this year's team is about trying to take guys off the scrap heap, give them a chance to build up value before July 31, and cash in on their success (hopefully)... then we see how the kids do.

Hudson to the Pirates.

Yankees interested in Quintana, but it should be noted that they've been talking to every team about pretty much everyone. Either way, the Yankees have a deep enough of a farm system to help us out.

I buy that. If my memory is correct he had a very good year. Good bat.

It certainly is a win-win for Holland. He finds a sucker to overpay him. So whats the downside? Well considering the direction we are going, down the toilet, maybe just spending 6 mm for nothing means nothing, but IMHO expecting value in return based on his past injury problems is expecting green cheese from the man in the moon. Just don't see the value, period. All I see is pairing Holland  with the other star pitcher they have James Shields. It just makes me go UGH. Maybe the value is only innings eaters. But 6 mm for an innings eater seems too high for me. Maybe I just dont like the Koolaid flavor they are serving.
