We're about to lose tonight and we will be one game behind the Giants for first pick!

It reminds me of the unbelievable 1967 pennant chase between four teams, in Bizzaro style.

LOL, what a race that was. Still cannot believe we lost to Senators and Athletics the final week, we had it in the bag.

Yup; Twi-night double header sweep by the lowly Kansas City A's on Black Wednesday doomed them.  Only needed to win one of them and they would have been in a commanding position.  Actually had a losing record against KC (the doormat of the league) that season.  I remember before the first game allot of the KC players were playing touch football in the outfield and the Sox announcer (the Old Commander, Bob Elson?) commented that could be a sign of trouble for The Beloved as the KC players were so loose.

Pitching staff of Peters/Horlen/John/Howard and if a 5th maybe John Buzhardt or someone like that? I think Juan P was gone by 66 or was injured?

Helluva way to end it. Avi throws home and nabs Merrifield on Cain's hit, and they catch Cain going to 2nd for a game ending DP.

Went from gunning for a top 3 pick (really hoping for #1 or 2)  to now hoping we can pick 4th. Grrrr........

Well, the kids that are playing now give me some hope. I like our infield right now with Davidson as DH. OF needs work, help on its way eventually. Jiminez might be ready mid year or 2019 for sure. Richard maybe by 2019. Rutherford the scouts like, me not so much as he did squat for us after the trade. Our staff likes him as future LF. Have to see how he progresses. Delmonico is making a case for himself.

Delmonico could be DH too. I would just like to see what Davidson would do with full season. If we traded him it would not bother me either.

Heard last night on the MLB Network the Tigers have lost 39 of their last 50 games.  11-39 is a .220 winning percentage.  An unreal level of suckitude.  Over a 162-game schedule that pace would lead to a 36-126 record.  They've gotten even worse in the month of September, a 4-22  record which is a .154 winning percentage. A .154 winning percentage would give them a 25-137 W/L record over a 162-game schedule.

I'm glad the young guys are playing well and their development is worth more than draft position -- I get that. Just would have liked the best of both worlds in what may be the only year we could pick that high.

I get your preference for the highest pick possible but a first four pick doesn't mean you'll end up with a better player.  Just go back three drafts to June 2014.  Picks 1-4 were: Brady Aiken, Tyler Kolek, Carlos Rodon & Kyle Schwarber.  The first two were HS pitchers who have absolutely sucked so fair in Rookie ball and low A.  Rodon has been a disappointment and is is hurt.  So far, Schwarber has been a poor man's Adam Dunn until the playoffs and that's a low sample size of success.   Aaron Nola who was the 7th pick has been better than any of those four and the "best" player has been Carlos Rodon's college teammate Trea Turner who fell to the 13th pick that draft.

You're absolutely right and I'm aware of that. But a single slot lower could also be the difference between picking Appel or picking Bryant. Or picking Benintendi or picking Fulmer. Sure you have to hope your org picks the correct guy but it's easier to get the guy you target the higher you pick, obviously. If we're going to pick 4th or 5th then luckily 2018 is the year to do it since this draft is supposedly one of the deepest it's been. And the Sox will be adding to an already stacked farm system so there's that.

Cheers. :D

I understand, I wanted top choice as well. That the kids are playing well makes me feel a tad better is all I was saying.

The loss is more in Draft slot $$$ then anything else #1 can always go underslot and pick up a ton of cash to spend on later picks.

So with 3 games left, we have a slight chance at getting pick 3 if the Phillies sweep the Mets, but the only way we lose pick 4 is if the reds get swept by the cubs, and we win more than one game against the Indians who want to win every game to have the best record.

So root big time for the Phillies and Indians this weekend.
