you all know I'm against the rush em up & let them learn at the big league level philosophy of Juan & Shoe. I remember the cub fans on the old boards bemoaning that the cubs were always calling up their prospects before they had developed the skills & discipline needed to be successful at the ML level.
But I realize one can be too conservative.
Avi Garcia is a good case study. It pisses me off that we wasted service time while he learned in the big leagues. He's only 26 & we only have him for this year and next.
It sucks, but no one can really criticize the Sox for playing him at the ML level. His AAA career #s are like around .370 - he had to be promoted.
Leury Garcia was promoted way to soon & then spent the next 2 years at AAA and he's developed into a valuable big leaguer
I don't argue against Adam Engel because he needs more seasoning - he's 26 yrs old for crying out loud - I just don't think he can hit.
Delmonico only hit like .262 at AAA, but I don't have a problem with him on the 25 roster because he's 25.
My problem with the Moncada promotion was: 1. He was only 21, and 2. He was only hitting .282 at AAA. If he was hitting .370 like Avi Garcia I'd be demanding a call up.
So, at least on this one, I'm with method.
