the score has a baseball show every Sunday morning & today they were relentless in blasting the Sox for calling up Kopech.

It was an economically poor choice, and its possible his UCL would have gotten better over the off-season. Tanaka has been pitching on strings for a long time now.

It just seems like a really poor choice right now due to the fact that we'll only have him for 4ish full years... he will not be back till 2020, and will be on an innings cap that year. As he's on the major league DL he will accumulate service time throughout his DL stay.

Blackie probably thinks its karma for keeping eloy down.

:"Palka now ranks second for most home runs by a left-handed hitting White Sox rookie with 21. Pete Ward hit 22 in 1963"

If Palka ended up second in ROY voting like I did, I wouldn't care about the homeruns

"I'm no doctor, but I'm pretty sure if the UCL is going to go, it's going to go at some point.  If not now, then next spring.   Pete Ward, is that right?"

Not sure.  I specialize in the right UCL and this is a left one.

Wish I could come up with a good nickname for him.

I wonder about the call ups of Cordell & Scahill. I don't think either will stay on the 40 after the season ends.

Are they just being nice?

Yes, for Scahill maybe they are trying to get him enough time to go with what he had and make him pension eligible? Cordell they want to check out, they think he could be something

Cordell was something, but this year he got hurt & missed most of the year & hit .239 at Charlotte. He turns 27 next March. I don't see him as a Rule 5 candidate or sought after as a minor league FA.

I'm surprised they added Scahill to the 40-man AND outrighted Tyler Danish to Charlotte.  You would think that a 24-year old former 2nd round pick (Danish) would get the nod over a 31-year old minor league free agent signee (Scahill).  Especially when you see that Danish had better numbers than Scahill in Charlotte.

Yes, for Scahill maybe they are trying to get him enough time to go with what he had and make him pension eligible?

The post-1980 collective-bargaining agreement allowed eligibility for a lifelong pension after only 43 game days on a Major League roster. The current minimum benefit is $34,000 a year; the maximum is $220,000.  MLB players contribute zero dollars to their pension fund.

They also qualify for free lifetime health insurance after only one day on a MLB roster.

Scahill entered the season with 2 years and 139 days of MLB service time.

That picture of the Montana mountains they chose is actually from the Canadian Rockies.  Moraine Lake; used to be on the back of their twenty dollar bill

The White Sox right now have the third worst record in MLB (62-98).  However both the Marlins and the Tigers can possibly drop lower than them in the standings if the White Sox win the next two games.  A loss today or tomorrow will guarantee the White Sox the number three pick in next June's draft.  Best case scenario is a loss tonight to the Twinkies to secure the overall #3 pick and a win tomorrow to avoid a 100-loss season.

edited to add:  Technically if the White Sox win their next two games while the Tigers lose their next two, the Tigers can only tie the White Sox in the standings.  However the Tigers would receive the better draft position since the tiebreaker is "worse record the previous season" which last year was the Tigers.

SOX SET MLB RECORD FOR Ks IN A SEASON. (1,594)

Moncada led the majors. So glad he had nothing to learn in the minors.

Not sure how I missed this (days-old news) and sorry if this was already posted, but...

Kevan Smith:  he gone

Also, three more removed from the 40-man, outright to Charlotte:

Signing Wellington Castillo turned out to be a mistake. Angels made a nice pick-up with Kevan.
