Before it even began, the Mitchell Boggs era is OVAH!

Sox demote Matt Davidson, Jordan Danks

By Colleen Kane, Tribune reporter - 12:31 p.m. CDT, March 23, 2014

GLENDALE, Ariz. – Third baseman Matt Davidson and outfielder Jordan Danks felt like they had solid showings for the Chicago White Sox in spring training this year, but both will start the season in the minor leagues after the Sox optioned them to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.

The Sox made five roster moves prior to Sunday’s game against the Rockies, also optioning right-hander Jake Petricka to Charlotte, assigning right-hander Dylan Axelrod to minor league camp and requesting waivers in order to grant the unconditional release of right-handed reliever Mitchell Boggs, who joined the team as a free agent in the offseason.

Quintana inks five-year deal with White Sox

By Joey Nowak / MLB.com | 3/24/2014 12:01 P.M. ET

The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a five-year contract with left-handed pitcher Jose Quintana, which includes two club options.

If Quintana, 25, is eligible for arbitration following the 2014 season, the total guaranteed dollars would be $26.5 million. He would receive $850,000 in 2014, $3.4 million in 2015, $5.4 million in 2016, $7 million in 2017 and $8.85 million in 2018. The White Sox would hold options for 2019 at $10.5 million and for 2020 at $11.5 million. If either option is declined, Quintana would receive a $1 million buyout.

If Quintana is not eligible for arbitration after the 2014 season, the total guaranteed dollars would be $21.0 million. He would receive $850,000 in 2014, $1 million in 2015, $3.8 million in 2016, $6 million in 2017 and $8.35 million in 2018. The Sox would hold options for 2019 at $10.5 million and for 2020 at $11.5 million with a $1million buyout.

Your 2014 starting pitchers:

Ventura said the Sox rotation order will start with left-hander Chris Sale, followed by right-hander Felipe Paulino, left-hander Jose Quintana, right-hander Erik Johnson and left-hander John Danks.

Has Paulino done something this spring I'm not aware of?

He's splitting the lefty's from the righty's, so it would either be Paulino or Johnson number 2. I think Paulino has been a little stronger, and he probably doesn't want a rookie in the number 2 spot.

Paulino had a nice start his last time out, 5 innings with 1 run. He can be overpowering. I think Juan has the correct reasons as well.

Hawk ready for White Sox to start fresh
Legendary broadcaster focused on team's core of young talent

By Scott Merkin / MLB.com | 3/26/2014 10:00 A.M. ET

CHICAGO -- A prevailing thought running through the mind of Ken "Hawk" Harrelson goes something like this: Don't even mention the 2013 White Sox season at the start of the 2014 campaign or any other time throughout the 162-game schedule.

This iconic television play-by-play personality, beginning his 30th season in the White Sox booth, understands that thought won't be entirely possible to execute.

"Yeah, I've never seen a ballclub perform that poorly," Harrelson told MLB.com of last year's 99-loss campaign during a recent Spring Training conversation. "Not any club I played on or any club I was associated with.

"I told players this is the worst performing team I've ever been associated with in my life and I never want to see it again, I can tell you that. It took me a long time to get over it.

The White Sox made several moves on Wednesday, the most significant of which was the placement of starting second baseman Gordon Beckham on the disabled list with an oblique injury. Marcus Semien will replace him in the starting lineup.

The temporary loss of Beckham resulted in fellow second baseman Leury Garcia landing a spot on the opening day roster.

Well, if it wasn't already a rebuilding season, it is now.

The mlb.com story which includes the CSN-Chicago video/audio of the play:

I still can't believe Ventura didn't challenge the "trapped ball" call as that was a turning point in the game.

Ugh, a whole year of Avi Garcia's development is gone now. That stinks. If he were a halfway decent outfielder this wouldn't have happened. In every game I saw he was making easy plays look difficult.

An update on Beckham from "The Bright One":

Gordon Beckham is fielding ground balls and taking batting practice at Class AA Birmingham, but Ventura doesn’t see him returning to game action right away. Beckham hasn’t played since last Thursday when he had a setback in his recovery from a strained left oblique.

I pissed off over Ventura's passiveness over the replay system. Terry Francona blew him away this weekend as Robin never challenged the plays he was crazy not to, and terry was smart to challenge at every opportunity.

Love to see us get Joe Madden here. JR and his loyalties could never do it though,

Here's your bullpen help:

White Sox sign Frank Francisco

Aaron Gleeman - Apr 14, 2014, 5:43 PM EDT

Veteran reliever Frank Francisco has signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox.

Francisco was slated to be the Mets’ closer last season, but instead elbow problems kept him sidelined until September and he made a total of just eight appearances. He also wasn’t any good for the Mets in 2012, saving 23 games with an ugly 5.47 ERA after signing a two-year, $12.5 million deal as a free agent.

Injuries and poor control made Francisco a poor fit as a closer, but he’s always missed plenty of bats and thrown plenty hard. If healthy he could help Chicago in a setup role, especially given the White Sox’s current need for bullpen depth. For now he’ll head to Triple-A at age 34.

add Downs to that list. He's has been as bad as those two.
