I'm starting to think that sacking Ozzie may not be a bad idea after all.  Providing that it's done right -- i.e. no ugly fallout (yeah, a tall order with any controversy involving Guillen), keep him within the org, etc.).

Not sure that Cora would be a suitable replacement though.  Get someone in there with a different approach to managing.

I personally think we should bring in Jim Thome as manager.  Love that guy.  Class act and all that.  Bring him back to the org.

Again - when can we fire Greg Walker?

The offense is f'ing talented.  VERY talented.

Konerko is the only one hitting worth a damn right now.  Quentin started hot, but he's cooling off.

In the no-hitter, those two were the only two guys in the starting lineup hitting above .250.

Every year, we have this conversation with the underachieving offense.  Yes, you can point to the success of Konerko, and yes, you can point to the success of Quentin early on, but I can point to the failures of Rios, Beckham, Pierre, AJ, Morel, Dunn, .... and that's just this year.

It's becoming obvious that Walker has pictures... lots of 'em.

I think that Dunn will eventually come around, but it will probably be too late to save this season.  Obviously, he was rushed back way too fast from his appendectomy.

Well, I've found Beckham's problem:

http://www.sunherald.com/2011/05/03/3077124/gordon-beckham-of-the-chicago.html

He's just a cheap bastard. Look for a bounceback year in 2012.

I heard an interesting suggestion on the Score today. Holmes was filling in for Speigs today and he was talking about the Peavey and Rios deals and said maybe it was time to get rid of KW and replace him with Hahn. I cant say I'd be against that idea

Rios cost us nothing but money. Last year he earned it, and it's too early to say he won't this year as well.

Peavy hasn't cost us anything crucial either, and no one could have foresaw his injury. If he comes back and performs, that's still a good trade. He's a former Cy Young winner with the potential to be our ace.

If KW is to be fired, it should be for the ridiculous way in which he handled Nick Swisher, his immediate extension of Teahen and his complete devastation of our farm system.

Agreed, but I would still include Rios, and Pierre, in the equation.  Couldn't KW have made better choices than those two?

I don't think either one is an egregious mistake. Pierre is an upgrade over the previous occupant in LF, and Rios might not be worth what we're paying him, but he hasn't been a bust. Streaky hitter who can play defense. Again, upgrade over the previous player.

On the other hand, we're empty-handed for Swisher and didn't bother to replace him until signing Dunn.

Teahen is a waste of any money we've given him, and gave up a better player in the bargain.

I still think with our rotation and the bats return to expectations, it isn't impossible for us to recover. The division is hardly stellar and no one is going to run away. 85 wins might be enough.

I do not agree. Pods was better with the bat, had just as much speed and even getting picked off as much as he did is about equal to the number of times Pierre has been caught stealing already this year, and Pods was not that much worse in left field than Pierre. All in all, I don't see how Pierre has been an upgrade.

And to me, there seemed to be a spark with Pods in the lineup. I don't see that with JP.

The only things Pantywaist brought to this team were a hot wife and an uncanny knack for short-hopping routine flyballs.
I am unforgiving.

And that was more than Pierre has brought to this team. Pierre literally adds nothing.

And lets not give Quentin a pass on his time in LF either. Pierre was an upgrade over Quentin too

Yeah, because Pierre sure hasn't dropped any fly balls or anything like that...

Just a hunch -- this team is about to turn the corner.  Starting pitching has been excellent (I think I saw that they've reeled off seven straight Quality Starts) and the bats are starting to come around.  Last four series they've gone 1-1-2 and have been a hit or two away from a win in most of the games.

Of course, I'll attribute this "hunch" to Koolaid poisoning if they play like a bunch of pansies in Anaheim and Oakland.

Another thought -- not sure if this has been brought up before:

I have little interest in replacing Humber with Peavy in the rotation at this point and Santos has been very nice in the closer's role.  But what about converting Peavy to a closer?

They miss both Haren and Weaver, so there's that.

I think we've thrown that idea around... doubt KW's ego will allow him to use Peavy as anything other then a starter..

Plus if hes a starter the chances of him hurting himself and the insurance company paying his salary rise drastically.

I don't think a guy with so many injury problems would be the ideal guy to have to get up and throw every day, especially without notice.  If you want to collect all the insurance money on Peavy, this would be a good way to do it.
