No freaking way. Cordell has a small shot, Tilson never had a prayer.

Tilson cleared waivers, so no issue.

Welp, Sox Brass totally f*cking blew a once-in-a-lifetime chance to gain real relevance, and then KW piles on by being tone deaf and saying stupid sh*t.   What a bunch of maroons.

really bad. Harpers AAV is 14th highest in the league. Phillies basically deferred 75 million from first 10 years into the last 3 of the contract.

overpay for dallas K coming up.

I said not to do this, but now I am. If, say... Ozzie Guillen is our manager I think we have a better chance of landing Machado.

I know, Juan says I am racist for not loving Renteria.

We would have had a better chance at landing Machado if Sox Brass offered him the $300 million everyone knew he wanted.  Instead, they tried to be cute.

I am still extremely disappointed in the way Sox Brass handled this.   They clearly could have afforded the $65 mil it would have taken to get both Machado and Harper, and as we are seeing with the Phillies, the additional tickets sales and game day revenue is probably going to cover half of Harper's salary this year.

If Moncada takes a step forward with the bat, nobody misses Machado. Madrigal is coming at 2B and Robert is coming for the OF.

I still feel like signing Adam Jones to a 2-3 year deal as a bridge to guys like Rutherford would be wise.
I'm not buying in on Palka (.570 OPS against LH) and Jay shouldn't even beat out Engel. Engel's defense >>> Jay's slightly better bat.
Alonso can't hit LH any better than Palka can.

If you want a more expensive "name", add it to the rotation. There's a real argument Lopez might be our best starter. Rodon has had spurts, but nothing more.
Giolito and Fulmer have looked like washouts. The rotation keeps us from being competitive, no matter who we have in the lineup.

I think no doubt they are going to need to sign a very good pitcher.  Or two

Jeff Passan is reporting a deal is "near".   Rumored to be 8 years.

If so, what was the point of keeping him down in the minors last year, when he clearly deserved to be promoted?

Six years guaranteed for $43 million, with two team options that could make it 8-years, $77 million.

No reason to play the service time game anymore.

Now they look silly for sending Eloy to minor league camp last week.

...or that was the push that Eloy and his agent needed to agree to a long term deal.

BTW, unless his starts hitting (his current spring training numbers are .154/.154/.346), I wouldn't be surprised if Eloy starts the season in Charlotte.  He's not a proven veteran where spring training numbers are meaningless.

Getting Eloy locked up is good. We did same thing with Sale.
