Walt Dropo,
Bill Skowron and
Enos Slaughter all actively participate in the melee. It took 28 minutes to restore order in the game. Home plate umpire Larry Knapp ejected Doby, Martin, Dropo and Slaughter from the game. Two innings later,
Whitey Ford ejected by first base umpire Johnny Stevens for bench-jockeying. When the game finally came to an end, the Yankees were victorious 4 -3.
