Good article at Sports Illustrated on Randy Poffo's baseball career:

make sure you click on the 'rare photos of Randy Savage' link in the article too.

The Atlanta Thrashers are no more; all hail the resurrection of the Winnipeg Jets:

I don't think they can call the the Jets, as that franchise is now in Phoenix.   Stupid, yes, but I recall hearing that a couple of weeks ago when this first came up.

Incredibly foolish.  If Baseball has done one thing right it has been not letting a city that loses a franchise replace it in 5 years time.  They can suffer for 30 years like Washington.

Speaking of which, I once saw an episode of Jeopardy where the answer was something to do with what franchise moved to Minnesota and the answer was the Washington Senators.  Of course Loveland knew that was incorrect and screamed at Alex Trebeck, who did nothing.

You might've been thinking of the other incarnation of the Washington Senators, who became the Texas Rangers....

...also, the NHL has completely re-structured its financials in the 15 years since the Jets left Winnipeg to allow cities like Winnipeg (and Buffalo... and other small market teams) to be competitive.  They won't draw in the broadcast revenues that Atlanta could potentially bring if they did things right, but they've at least got local (and regional) support, FWIW.

The city that would make the most sense to move a team to, though, would be Hamilton, Ontario.... but Toronto and Buffalo aren't going to like that very much.

From wikipedia:

In 1960, Major League Baseball granted the city of Minneapolis an expansion team. Washington owner Calvin Griffith, Clark's nephew and adopted son, requested that he be allowed to move his team to Minneapolis and instead give Washington the expansion team. Upon league approval, the team moved to Minnesota after the 1960 season, setting up shop in Metropolitan Stadium, while Washington fielded a brand new "Washington Senators" (which later became the Texas Rangers prior to the 1972 season).

Don't try to throw down with Trebek.  You won't win.

Well, this former Sox player sporting the 'Ricky Ricardo look' (lower right corner of the 1st photo) is a big time Miami Heat supporter:

Shoeless and MSF happy with your new AD hire?

He did great things for UC. Big LEast is going to maintain its reputation if they cant find ways to hold onto their good staff.

I am ok with him, he seems to be a stickler for honesty, and that is cool, no need to cheat. Not sure I am crazy that he appears to be more FB than hoops, I tend to prefer hoops. But he will be better than the idiot they had in the role. They really need to promote themselves more to Chicago. Tough task, but no way NW should be saying they are Chicago's team, that is a joke, right?

I feel SO sorry for Tiki:

"Where this will leave Tiki Barber the person, I don't know. He's also recently proposed to his girlfriend, the one with whom he was involved while still married to his pregnant wife. So that's good news."

Gonna be up there with the family in mid-December, so I thought I'd take lil' Boat to a Blackhawk game...

Pffffft!  $60 a TICKET to sit in the back of the 300 level.  What a joke.  Who pays that to watch a game that's only slightly more significant than a pre-season tilt?  Insane.

I guess that beats the $160 minimum to sit downstairs, though.
