It only rewards the teams that get hot at the end
But if a team happens to get hot at the right time (in the playoffs) why shouldn't they be rewarded? If they're hot and keep winning, their wins aren't any less deserving just because the opposing team had a better run during the season. Why penalize a team just because they got hot at the absolute best time? That doesn't seem very fair, imo.
And also, if the other team was more consistently good during the season, they should be just as good now. If not, oh well. That's baseball. That's why the games are played on the field, not on paper.
