Well, he is from the South...

Jordan Danks returned to the Sox after extending his streak of reaching base safely to 30 games at Triple-A Charlotte covering two stints.

Danks said he wasn't aware of his achievement until his wife and mother told him.

Hah. So is this a case of him completely discrediting what his wife says?

See, punctuation is important:  "Danks said he wasn't aware of his achievement until his wife, and mother, told him."

Fixed.

Reminds me of the joke about walking into one's grandparents' house and shouting:

"Let's eat grandma!"

Or, was it... "Let's eat, grandma!"  ?

Perspective:

Or as Robin Ventura put it when answering my question about defining this season: "The season's not over on Sept. 2, it's actually over for us on Oct. 3."

I put it this way: Teams that are leaders in this year's pennant races have stretch limos, Hummers and Excursions as bandwagons. The White Sox: Fiats.

Oakland is a leader for the wild card and they don't have stretch limos, Hummers or Excusions. The Orioles are right there for the wild card/division yet they had 10K at a game last week. The Rays aren't close to selling out even though they have a shot at the playoffs. And none of those teams have another team in their city that they're competing for fan allegiance with.

I get that the Sox attendance leaves people scratching their head but they are not the only team struggling with that issue. In fact, the Sox probably have the best attendance out of the teams mentioned above.

I didn't think that's what he meant there.  I thought he was referring to media enthusiasm regarding the "contenders".

Ah, then I misunderstood. That is most definitely true that the Sox have virtually zero media enthusiasm.

Actor Michael Clarke Duncan repped his beloved White Sox until the end

By Kevin Kaduk | Big League Stew – 6 hours ago

Michael Clarke Duncan, the "Green Mile" actor who died at age 54 on Monday, achieved his fame and successes a little later in life. And like many average Joes who vault to stardom after years of holding regular jobs, Duncan used his newfound fame as a way to rub shoulders with the sports teams he had long supported in a more anonymous life.

"Mad Men's" Jon Hamm is perhaps the best current example of this phenomenon as he has become the celebrity fan for the St. Louis Cardinals, St. Louis Blues and Missouri Tigers. But Duncan was right there with him, holding a pair of prized courtside seats for the Los Angeles Lakers and supporting his hometown Chicago White Sox in a variety of ways. The South Side native holds the distinction of being the only Chicagoan to ever narrate a World Series film for a Windy City champion after his baritone laid the soundtrack for the White Sox's 2005 highlight reel. He also served as the narrator for 2010's "The Club," MLB Network's forerunner to "The Franchise" series.

Duncan was also said to be one among the thousands that rushed Comiskey Park's field during Disco Demolition Night in 1979. He even told Chicago reporter Sarah Spain a few years back that he had made away with Bill Melton's bat during the commotion, though the slugger had been retired for two years at that point and hadn't played for the Sox since 1975.

8 seasons with the Sox?

Cripes.  It seems just like yesterday I was cursing at him in that Twinkie uniform...

We'd better re-sign him this off-season.

+1

and kudos to you Fury for knowing the difference in spelling between re-sign and resign as that's one of my pet peeves.

I used to be in the re-sign AJ camp, but lately methinks the Sox would be better off if they resign themselves from his presence; otherwise, they might be resigned to a horrible fate.

Stories like this are why Phil Rogers gets paid the big bucks, folks:

White Sox need more starts like Quintana's

http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/columnists/ct-spt-0911-rogers-on-white-sox--20120911,0,4603480.column

Look for another outstanding piece tomorrow informing us all that the Sox need win more games than the Tigers if they want to take the division...

So I grabbed a few gems from motownsports.com from yesterday's game thread. Makes me want to win this division even more now:

Sums up the season. Lazy dumb defense behind a terrible pitcher. Starting Porcello, Raburn, Young, Garcia, Laird in your biggest game of the season. Shut down by a bad pitcher despite having him one pitch from being out of the game in the second inning. Your best hitter strikes out twice and causes two double plays.

The 2012 Detroit Tigers.

Now they'll score two runs so it can be another one run loss

------------------

It's bad enough that the Tigers suck, but they're going to lose the division to a team with a brain damaged GM and about 10k fans a night at the stadium. Awesome.
-----------------

Kenny Williams has been just as good or better than Dombrowski.

---------------------

Bright side. 3 weeks from today or tomorrow, Leyland will be fired.
------------------------

We see this everytime we play in Chicago. Its the inferiority complex of the fact that they know Detroits fanbase is probably 20 times larger than theirs. So rather than chant "Lets Go White Sox" their trailer-park mentality can just get out "De-troit sucks!". Its also funny knowing that though they consistently have a better team than their cross-town rival, about 80% of Chicago is not a White Sux fan LOL

-----------------

WS fans are a classy bunch

-------------------

They better put one in AJ's ear next time up. Just smoke him in the head. Send him to Cook County with blood draining from his eyes, nose, mouth, and anus.

They want me to register/sign in for THAT?

Anyway, almost makes me long for the days of the guys who used to deliberately stir things up and **** people off.

I said "almost".

Peopel are entitled to their opinions of any announcer, but I can't for the life of me understand why a team's announcers shouldn't be homers. When our team hits a home run, our announcers should be excited. When our team wins, our announcers should be excited. I don't want to listen to neutral commentary from our own announcers.

And Hawk is also very critical of the team and praises players on other teams quite often. You may not like some of his stupid catchphrases sometimes but I'd rather listen to my announcer show passion for our team then someone who is very blah call the games.

Ron Santo was the biggest homer there was, but it didn't seem like he ever received criticism for it.

It's unAmerican to criticize Santo.  For anything.  He never made an error when he played, did you know that?

I concur with Rule.  And having had DirecTV for so many years, I have been privey to a lot of REALLY boring announcers.  Circle me Burt!
