Media Coverage of the White Sox
« on: April 10, 2011, 08:10:14 pm »
This is the thread for Shoeless to rip on Phil Rogers, ESPN, the 'Cub-une', Joe Cowley, the east coast media, Baseball Prospectus, etc. for their awful coverage of the White Sox.

Others are also welcome to discuss and comment on media coverage of the White Sox.

Ozzie explains ("I have confidence in the bullpen"), Pierre apologizes ("It basically cost us two games on the schedule so far"), Thornton falls on his sword ("With a one-run game, you can't allow the leadoff guy to [hit a] double... that's terrible"):

But the freshness date has long since passed on Guillen and even more so on the Ken Williams regime

Rogers is the LAST guy who should be talking about freshness dates. Reading a piece by him is not unakin to watching Andy Rooney.

apparently Rogers is sick of suking hendry's peenis so he wrote that instead

From Cowley's piece in the bright one:

Quote
An even more depressing thought is if the Sox continue to spiral downward and can move some pieces, what are they then? They’re a team with a core group of expensive, underachieving talent surrounded by inexperience

i.e., the Cubs

See how many of the big words you actually know:

I for one am happy to now know the word "tincture"

Yeah, tincture was the new one on me as well. That was good! He was having some fun and it showed. Cowley, Rogers, et al should give that a good look.

Plus he makes the good point: The task is daunting, sure, but the still-hopeful (will) cling to hitters returning to form, with regression to statistical mean in various individual and team categories all but certain, if perhaps not enough. Improvement is bound to come, of course, but it may not get the Sox back to being good. Last year’s flash-fire snap-back was an anomaly, and can’t be expected to repeat itself.

This team is so bad that I have little hope for NEXT year, let alone rebounding this year.

Methinks they may be bad for a few years, as King JR will seek not to bring new prospective knights to the table but rather rid the kingdom of the cost of his current legions by dumping their salaries on neighboring royalty in trades that will only bring mere serfs who will never rise to the challenge of a major league joust.  Expect not the mighty White Sox to reign again until JR slayeths the two headed dragon that now terrorizes his dominion and summons a new sorcerer who knoweth the value of buidling a good farm system to provide warriors for the battle.

Wherefore art thou, Oh Larry Himes?!

Wherefore art thou, Oh Larry Himes?!

I can't resist mentioning this because I see it so often. Technically, that means something other than what you're going for. "Wherefore" means "why". In the play whence that famous quote is derived, Juliet is asking, in essence, "Romeo, why are you a Montague?". Now, WHY she is asking that is a long story that I don't have time to get into right now.

So perhaps "Wherefore art thou, Juan Pierre?" makes more sense. And it sounds nice and pretty too.

Well, Juliet doesn't want Romeo to be a Montague.  Life would be easier for her if he wasn't.

Just like we don't want Juan Pierre to be... Juan Pierre.

Getting those draft picks to compensate for signing of Jackson and Buerhle would be a nice step in the direction of building the farm system.  But why do I fear they would both accept arbitration and extend "we're all in (this pile of crap together)" for 2012?

Stupid poll of the day on Trib site: Who was worst signing, Boozer, Dunn or Pena.

Boozer has had injuries but effective when healthy, Dunn and Pena have been with their teams 1 month of a 6 month season.

Lazy.
