huh?  both drafted and played in the system.  we're talking about the ability to produce good home grown talent.

Being gifted a top 10 pick due to incompetence doesnt mean we produced that talent... producing talent can is turning those other picks into serviceable major leaguers...

lots of top 10 picks who do nothing.  I'd be curious how other teams stack up over the past 3-4 years in producing comparable ML talent

That is ridiculous. You do not get to pick and choose which of our prospects are "homegrown".

If they came up through our minor leagues, they count as developed.

Tyler Flowers was a highly ranked prospect we received in the Vazquez deal. He looked awful last year.
This year he got righted and now looks like our C of the future.
Developed.

Alejandro De Aza arrived in our system after  batting about .235 for Florida in extremely limited time.
Developed.

Lillibridge has been up and down for what seems like a decade.
Developed.

Santos was converted from SS to Reliever by our minor league staff.
Developed.

Morel has spent time at every level of our organization.
Developed.

KC has supposedly had a farm system rich in gold prospects for years. How's that turned out for them?
Didn't Kila Ka'aihue just get released by them?

As long as we are producing one or two players a year for the big club, our farm system is just fine.
Dylan Axelrod, Addison Reed and Jacob Petricka look like a nice group of prospects to me.

Zach Stewart has the stuff, he still needs to learn how to pitch.

Tyler Kuhn, Josh Phegley, Trayce Thompson all have potential to help.

I don't see the weakness everyone else sees. Albert Pujols isn't in the system. Big deal, I don't see him in anybody else's system either.

None of the players you listd are anything more then marginal players...

Our drafting has been **** poor short of the two big hits we got picking in the top 10.. Its been abysmal.

"wouldn't surprise me if Omar threw his hat in the ring"

--don't bother:  he's just playing ring the gac with a Sox' pitching prospect

I wouldn't necessarily disagree that our drafting hadn't been that great for a while, until recently.

Our last few drafts I thought were pretty good.  You and MSF put too much emphasis on spending money on the draft.
IMO, that is no better than throwing money at FAs, maybe worse. FAs have track records.
We threw money at Joe Borchard. That didn't work out so well.

Garland will be a Free Agent, FWIW.

Sounds like the kind of guy we'd pick up "for cheap" this offseason if we needed to fill out the rotation.

Name candidates such as Joe Torre, Tony La Russa, and Bobby Valentine are not thought to be on Boston's list, writes Sean McAdam of CSNNE.com.  Instead, the top candidates appear to be Dave Martinez, Pete Mackanin, and Sandy Alomar Jr.  It seems possible that the Red Sox will have to go head-to-head with the White Sox in their manager search.

Yeah.  Weird, isn't it?    Not sure what I think about this, other than it is totally baffling.

It can only go two ways.  Utter brilliance or unmitigated disaster.  I actually see the logic here. I think he will do fine and I like it more than Martinez or Alomar.  Of course, KW with lots of BS about someone on a playoff team
