Francona is a choker!  Plus he doesn't know how to get his teams off to fast starts - either.

Cool.  Not a bad haul for a guy that was nearly out of baseball 3 years ago...

Good for him.

He earned it.

30 saves, 6 blown saves. He'll be rated 8th in AL by Elias I think. Better than Soria, Gregg and and some other, bigger names.

Yeah, but it bothers me that he sort of sucked at the end of the season

Apparently Don Cooper has been pushing for the Sox to hire Francona.

That would be a great hire. Even with Coop going to bat for Francona, I still feel the deck is stacked against Francona

Two reasons why Terry Francona is, at best, a long-shot to be named the White Sox next manager:

[1] Francona made $4M @ year for Boston.  That's $2.5M more than the CWS are willing to pay their next manager and

[2] Kenny's ego can't handle having a manager more accomplished then him (two World Series titles in 8 seasons).  Kenny prefers a first time manager that's beholding to him for the opportunity to move up.

The only way Terry Francona is named White Sox manager is if Reinsdorf insists on the hire.

I think its the other way around. I think KW and Francona are friends, but Reinsdorf isnt going to pay the 4 Mill necessary to get Francona. Ozzie was obscure too with no managing experience when hired. Look for McEwing or Alomar to get the job. Thats why I said despite Coop lobbying for Francona Francona isnt likely hired. Reinsdorf has to save money somewhere with Done and Rihose to pay for.

My worst fears, Rick Hahn to the Cubs. Why does KW still have a job as GM of the Sox

White Sox farm system last?

Not sure why Hahn gets the genious tag -- not just here but also in some local media.   He's the guy who oversees our awesome drafts.

second son Jagger [Martinez] is a freshman scholarship soccer player at Northwestern.

Although I guess it's kind of cool to be named after a rock star that actually has talent, but the poor kid's nickname is probably "Jag".

Cripes!  What is with this obsession of only ex-Sox being considered for the coaching staff??

This loyalty thing is really p i s s ing me off.   We're a major-market club - make decisions like one!

Ah, Phil.   Too busy sucking Hendry's **** to ever criticize the BILLION dollars he blew without winning a single playoff game in 8 seasons.  And the criticism of the farm system is a bit over the top.   It has produced Hudson, Gio, Beckham, Morel, Viciedo, Sale, Richard in just the past couple of years.  Not bad production if you ask me.

I find it funny that they are "targeting" Martinez.  Good lord, it should be the other way around.

If he ever becomes famous, his nickname, as is done with so many other stars these days, will be JagMart.

"Edes says the Red Sox have internally discussed Sandy Alomar Jr., Dave Martinez, Pete Mackanin, Ryne Sandberg, and Tony La Russa as candidates to replace Terry Francona as manager.  It is tricky to have Epstein overseeing this process given his uncertainty, but Cherington is involved as well."

The farm system did not "produce" Beckham.

George Carlin's "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television": "shit", "piss", "fuck", "cunt", "cocksucker", "motherfucker", and "tits".
