Man, what happened to the Pirates?

There are times that I think that it's not such a good idea to be buyers at the trade deadline and bring in new players.  Mucks with the "chemistry," I suppose.  Definitely seems to be the case with the Bucs -- they got to August with a winning record playing the guys they had, why not run with it?

Agree on the chemistry. In 2005 we did not add much, just a couple minor adjustments, chemistry stayed good.

Last months 19th inning debacle seemed to take it out of the pirates... they've been on a skid ever since that game against the braves where they called the guy safe when he was obviously out.

They gotta feel the world is against them after that, years of losing and then an obvious out in the 19th bloody inning gives the win away.

I tried to find the video on monday for my dad... MLB has had it removed from just about everywhere.

The braves player was walking to dugout with his head down... 5 steps away from home and hears SAFE!... he was shocked.

Rowand doesn't take steroids -- steroids take Aaron Rowand.

He won two World Series and made boat load of money.  Not a bad career.

Now that he'll have some time for it, I'd like to imagine wacky bang-ups he could get into around the house or the boat.

"Aaron, you really need to get up there and take care of those gutters"-type things.

Of course he's not cleaning his own gutters, but it's still fun. Maybe a yacht-polishing mishap or something.

Sounds like a [bad] Coldplay song.

Yes, including "bad" makes it redundant.

As if there was a shred of doubt that Jenks had anything left.  He completely lost it last year and I certainly didn't see much of a chance that he'd rebound.  Billy Koch Part II.

Daniel Hudson's stats since being traded to the D-Backs for Edwin Jackson thirteen months ago (July 30, 2010):

W     L     %    ERA    G   GS   GF   CG   SHO     IP      H    R     ER   HR   BB   IBB   SO  WHIP
23   10   .697   2.93   41   41   0   3     0     282.2    251  104   92   22   59    1   226  1.097

...and all of this while making just above the MLB minimum.  Hudson's making  $419K vs. Edwin Jackson's $8.35M.  Hudson's salary is 1/20 of Jackson's salary.  Hudson also isn't eligible for arbitration until AFTER the 2013 season.

20-year old left-handed pitcher David Holmberg was also sent to Arizona in the trade.  He's doing great in their system.

Nice trade Kenny! </sarcasm>

Kicker on the main espn.com story today (Prince Fielder likely going to sign elsewhere in the offseason):

Prince Fielder declared this is probably his last year in Milwaukee. Why would he bring this up now?

In the article, it clearly states "when asked about" -- so all of the musings about Fielder creating drama and what-not are a joke.  The media initiated the topic and the guy answered a question.  Who's stirring the pot here?

Jackals....

I suspect the problem is that most players fall into the media's trap. Fielder (and any other player in his situation) should learn from players before him and when asked about their contract just say something like, "I'm in the middle of a pennant race with the Milwaukee Brewers. Once our season is over is when I will address questions about my contract. Until then, my focus needs to be on this baseball team."

Shouldn't be too hard.

Yeah, was thinking about that after I posted.  But still, the media baits them into this kind of situation and then calls it a controversy.

George Carlin's "Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television": "shit", "piss", "fuck", "cunt", "cocksucker", "motherfucker", and "tits".
