Suprised to learn the Illini are still (barely) alive in the NCAA Tourney.    Think their game is on ESPNU tonight at 6pm, but not positive.

Wow...the wheels are flying off on the North Side:

Bob Brenly applauds Big Z's stance, rips Cubs as indifferent

Cubs broadcaster Bob Brenly added fuel to the Carlos Zambrano saga Monday, applauding the pitcher’s rant and referring to the Cubs as a “dead-ass team” with several indifferent players.

In an interview on "The Danny Mac Show" on WSCR-AM 670, Brenly said, “Big Z is just expressing what a lot of fans feel, what a lot of us broadcasters feel, and as usual, doesn’t always choose his words properly, doesn’t always choose his forum properly, but I applaud the emotions.

“This has been, once again, another dead-ass team. You’ve got some guys that look like they’re just playing out the string, and we’re only in the first (week) of June here, and we know from past experience that Carlos is not on e of those guys that can sit by idly and keep his mouth shut and just let things continue to spiral downward. He’s going to express his opinion, he’s going to be emotional about it when he does it.

Report: Grace arrested for DUI

By Cash Kruth / MLB.com | 06/08/11 6:44 PM ET

Former Major Leaguer and current D-backs announcer Mark Grace was arrested in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Memorial Day on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to an Arizona Republic report on Wednesday citing a police report.

Grace was stopped by Scottsdale police at 64th Street and Cochise Road shortly after 1 a.m. on May 30 when the 46-year-old made a wide right turn, according to the report. Police also saw Grace weave within the lane.

Grace did not have his wallet or driver's license with him at the time of his arrest, and he also admitted to "having a few drinks," police told the Republic.

Grace was arrested on suspecting of driving with a blood-alcohol level of more than 0.08 percent, the legal limit in Arizona, and being DUI-impaired, according to the report.

Grace, a three-time All-Star, played 16 Major League seasons with the Cubs and D-backs. He retired from baseball in 2003 and has since been a TV color commentator for the D-backs and FOX.

My predictions of two stints on the DL this season has already come true before the All-Star break:

Bobby Jenks back on the DL

Like the old polka tune goes, "I dont want him you can have him, he's too fat for me." No wonder he is on the DL.

I was hoping that when the Sox play in AZ that Gracie would take Dunn out for a Slump Buster.

Jim Northrup passed on. He was a good hitting CF for the Tigers in the mid to late 60s. Tigers made a drastic change just before the 1968 world series that let Northrup into the lineup fulltime. The moved the RH hitting platoon CF, Mickey Stanley, to SS for the WS, removing light hitting Ray Oyler from the lineup. Can you believe moving your CF to SS just for the WS, and it worked.

As a kid, I saw Northrup play many times at the old Tiger Stadium.  As you said, he was a powerful hitter... I remember him launching some impressive shots into the seats.  I actually got his autograph once on the back of a 1967 Tiger Yearbook (long gone).  Ray Oyler and Don Wert were good-field, no-hit players on that '68 team.

Don Wert, wow, yeah.

They sure could hit everywhere else, Dick McAuliffe, Norm Cash, Kaline and Horton, Freehan. Good pitching too. McLain, Lolich etc....

Fury, is McAuliffe the one who tackled Tommy John and seperated his shoulder to knock him out for the season one year, I think John was 10-5 at the time.

As I recall, Northrup was one of a handful of major league playrs to hit to Grand Slams in one game

I vaguely remember that incident... didn't McAuliffe claim that John was aiming at his head?
